Inner Mongolia University for Nationalities is located in Tongliao City, East Inner Mongolia. It is a comprehensive university for nationalities and a key construction university in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The school was founded on 1958. In 2000, it was formed by the merger of the former Inner Mongolia Normal University for Nationalities, Inner Mongolia Mongolian Medical College and Zhelimu Animal Husbandry College. In 2006, the school was established as a key university in the autonomous region. In 2009, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region signed an agreement to jointly build schools. Mongolian pharmacy was approved to serve the doctoral program of national special needs talents.

The school has 18 teaching units, including School of Political Science and Law, School of Educational Sciences, School of Physical Education, School of Humanities, School of Mongolian Studies, School of Foreign Languages, School of Art, School of Mathematics and Computer, School of Physics and Electromechanical, School of Chemistry, Agricultural College, College of Animal Science and Technology, School of Clinical Medicine, School of Mongolian Medicine and Pharmacy, Vocational and Technical College, School of Adult Education, School of International Exchange and Marxist-Leninist Teaching and Research Department.
