On the Reform Direction of English Teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges

At present, one of the characteristics of English teaching in higher vocational colleges is the examination-oriented nature of assessment methods. Different majors in higher vocational education need their own professional English knowledge.

Abstract: Under the new situation, English teaching reform in higher vocational colleges is facing new challenges, which come from internal disciplines and social talent environment. In this paper, the internal and external environment of English teaching reform is deeply analyzed and discussed, and on this basis, some strategic suggestions for reform are put forward.

First, the necessity of English teaching reform in higher vocational colleges

At present, English course in higher vocational colleges is a compulsory public basic course, and English knowledge and ability, as an important professional accomplishment of higher vocational students, has been highly valued by higher vocational education. With the in-depth and sustainable development of China's export-oriented economy, all sectors of the national economy have higher and higher requirements for the English quality of professionals, and the English teaching model needs to constantly enrich and improve itself according to the changes of this external environment.

Only in this way can we ensure that English teaching and the level of social development advance simultaneously. In the past, English teaching in higher vocational colleges mainly focused on the foundation of knowledge, the universality of content and the unity of teaching management and examination, which to a great extent became an important part of influencing and improving teaching level. But it is also these departments and fields that are most prone to problems.

Although the knowledge base can solve the problem of students' basic English skills well. But a lot of time and energy are spent on learning and strengthening the basic knowledge, which is really a waste of resources for the study of professional English in higher vocational colleges.

The extensiveness of content has also become a key factor to influence and improve the English level of higher vocational students to a great extent. However, the current problem is that although general knowledge has been well reflected in public courses, the requirements for professional English knowledge are different because of the different majors in higher vocational colleges. English course, as a public course, can't meet the individual needs of students of different majors, which is also an internal reason that affects English knowledge teaching at present. Therefore, in general, the reform of English teaching in higher vocational colleges needs to be deepened according to the changes of the situation.

Second, the problems in English teaching in higher vocational colleges

Higher vocational education is an integral part of higher education. It should not only reflect the professionalism of higher vocational education, but also include the knowledge of higher education. Dealing with the relationship between them is an eternal topic in English teaching in higher vocational colleges. At the same time, it is in the process of weighing the relationship between the two that some new problems appear constantly. 1. The professionalism of English teaching has not been fully reflected. Different majors in higher vocational education need their own professional English knowledge.

Because, from a macro point of view, China's economy is undergoing a global innovation, and every department of the national economy should go abroad to the world and communicate with advanced countries in the world. This requires all talents, including professionals, to have certain English knowledge and ability, and the first thing to be solved is the basic English knowledge and ability related to their own professional fields. Reflected in the stage of higher vocational education, students of different majors should systematically study professional English related to their majors. However, as far as the current situation is concerned, English still exists as a public course in most higher vocational colleges, which does not reflect professionalism and professionalism.

2. Practicality of English teaching

Still need further attention. Higher vocational students' English ability should be reflected not only in examination papers and writing, but also in oral English and ability. At present, one of the characteristics of English teaching in higher vocational colleges in China is the examination-oriented nature of assessment methods. The idea of exam-oriented education runs through English teaching in higher vocational colleges. The purpose of students learning English is to pass the exam and graduate smoothly. However, I still can't give full play to my English ability in the actual language communication environment after graduation. The reason is that students' English practical ability is not strong, English teaching focuses on the enlightenment and transmission of theoretical knowledge, and lacks oral practice and language communication ability training in real scenes. Therefore, this problem should be a prominent problem to be solved in the future teaching reform.

3. The English teaching system is not perfect. The imperfection of English teaching system is mainly reflected in the insufficient integration of teaching resources, such as the integration of teachers and curriculum system, and the integration of off-campus practice and classroom teaching. In previous higher vocational education, school-enterprise cooperation, as an important mode to improve students' practical ability, has been widely valued. However, in the school-enterprise cooperation, students' English knowledge and ability have no chance to be cultivated and improved, especially for English majors, such as foreign trade English. After entering the enterprise internship, students are exposed to the basic positions of foreign trade, and the knowledge they have learned is only simple foreign trade knowledge, so they do not have sufficient opportunities to contact foreign trade negotiations, English exchange and other contents. This should be an important part of the English teaching system. Therefore, the imperfect English teaching system is another major problem that affects the teaching effect.

Third, vocational English teaching strategies

English teaching reform in higher vocational colleges must be constantly improved and adjusted according to the needs of the situation and the actual situation of students. One of the important principles is pertinence. According to the current situation of students and teaching, it is suggested to pay attention to the following reform directions in teaching:

1. Integration of English knowledge teaching and major. Different majors in higher vocational colleges have their own particularity, which is also reflected in English knowledge. The current public curriculum system should be decomposed into different independent professional English systems. All majors should develop their own English courses, such as computer majors, and develop English courses related to international computer knowledge for students, so as to ensure that students can directly read English original works or newspapers and magazines in the computer industry through the study of English knowledge. In a word, it is of great significance for each major to develop specialized English courses according to their own development and improve students' professional English ability, so that they can better engage in their own post work in the future.

2. Enhance the practicality of English teaching. Strengthening the practicality of English teaching is mainly reflected in two aspects. One is to provide students with real scenes to exercise their English communicative competence in education and teaching, but pay attention to the cultivation of students' listening and speaking ability in teaching.

These two points are important factors that affect students' English quality. As far as the subject is concerned, English teaching is mainly reflected in? Learn English? And then what? In English? Two aspects. In the previous teaching, we focused on solving? Learn English? The problem of knowledge absorption and indoctrination has accumulated rich experience and achieved remarkable results. But in? In English? There are still some shortcomings in the links, and students' English knowledge can't be brought into full play in communication. Therefore, in the teaching reform, students should be provided with opportunities to communicate in English, and through a lot of practice and training, their English can only be spoken and displayed.

3. Improve the English teaching system. This link is closely related to the above two aspects. To enhance the practicality of English teaching, it is necessary to establish a perfect teaching system, including the establishment of practical teaching system.

Some higher vocational colleges even practice the importance of teaching, make various attempts in teaching reform and develop corresponding practical teaching models. These models are all correct, and there is no problem in the direction, but the development and mining of the models are not deep enough to give full play to their potential. For example, the above-mentioned school-enterprise cooperation mode, students in the process of participating in enterprise internship, there is no opportunity to contact English communication and exercise. Therefore, concrete measures should be formulated in the construction of the curriculum system to provide guarantee for students to stand more fully in real English scenes.
