He devoted his life to the development of agricultural education and science and technology in China. He is the first professor of plant pathology in China, and he has compiled teaching materials for the first time. During his tenure as director of agricultural science at Nanjing Normal University, he advocated that agricultural universities must establish a new system combining teaching, scientific research and extension, and put forward important suggestions for agricultural education in China. He was also an important promoter of cotton planting industry and agricultural product inspection in modern China. He took the lead in setting up the Cotton Improvement Promotion Committee in the Agricultural Department of Southeast University, set up the Shanghai Commodity Inspection Bureau, and supported the national agricultural improvement institutions with a large amount of bank funds. Entrusted by the government, he purchased and transported a large number of excellent cotton seeds from No.65438 to No.0949. He has made great contributions to modern agricultural education, science and technology and inspection of agricultural and livestock products in China.

As early as 19 15 when studying in the United States, Ren Hongjuan, Guo Xianxian, Yang Xingfo, Mao Yisheng and other students studying in the United States initiated and organized the China Science Society, which was the earliest natural science academic group and influential academic magazine in China. Premier Zhou Enlai once praised him, Yang Xingfo and Mao Yisheng as "three outstanding figures in Southeast China" (they were the three directors of agriculture, commerce and industry in early Southeast University).
