Magicians and laymen:
What I want to talk about this afternoon is "the main spirit and basic content of Tibetan scriptures". I personally studied Tibetan scriptures in the past, but my understanding is very one-sided. I regard this part of the Buddhist sutra as a classic for offering sacrifices to ghosts and gods, so I only read it when Yulan Club is here. Later, I learned some great explanations and was inspired. It can be said that the relationship between us who study Buddhism is very close. In fact, Tibetan scriptures can be said to be compulsory classics for the four disciples of Buddhism. Why do you bring this up? Is there any basis? Here, I will talk about my learning experience and some basis.
First, Tibetan scriptures are Buddhist filial piety. There are three filial piety sutras in Buddhism: Buddhism says it is difficult to repay parents' kindness, Kogasawara Sutra and Tibetan Sutra. Filial piety is the foundation of Buddhism, the foundation of being a man, and spending time with all beings is the expansion of filial piety. When we were studying Hua Yan Jing, we were told that "the man in the world is my father and the woman in the world is my mother". This is the expansion and development of filial piety. On the other hand, how can a person who is not filial to his parents believe that he will love to save all beings? Therefore, there is no Buddhism without filial piety, and Buddhism is the expansion and deepening of filial piety. The Sanskrit tells us: honor parents, honor teachers and honor the three treasures. Filial piety is the supreme law, and filial piety is called words and deeds. This explanation of filial piety is very thorough. The Tibetan Sutra says that the Tibetan Bodhisattva shows the deeds of a brahmin woman, a light-eyed woman and a filial daughter. It is because of filial piety that the Bodhisattva has developed into "all beings are exhausted, and Bodhi can prove it;" Hell is not empty, and you will never become a Buddha. This is an example for us practitioners. Parents are buddhas in the classroom. They are unfilial to their parents at home and go to the temple to ask Buddha and Bodhisattva to bless their only child. This is really ridiculous! You will never get what you want. Some young intellectuals and doctoral students once asked me a question. He said that we are all only children now, and of course we all care about the growth of our children. Others say you need insurance. It is safest to burn incense and donate some merits in the temple on the first and fifteenth day of the first month. He asked me if I was reliable. I said it was unreliable. This is not a Buddhist idea. Buddhism teaches us how to be a man. You are unfilial to your parents at home and treat them as servants. Go to the temple to burn incense and donate money, and the doll will be spared, and all buddhas and bodhisattvas will be bribed. Will buddhas and bodhisattvas still doubt your money? I said that Buddhism is about self-cultivation and self-acceptance. Buddhism teaches us to be filial to our parents, but you don't. Instead, he abused his parents. What do you deserve for this career? Master Yin Guang also has a clear explanation for this problem. He said you are someone else's child now, and in a few years, you will be a parent. What you are doing to your parents now is a kind of karma, which is equal to the water in front of the tile roof. If it is, if it is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Today, it is very important to advocate filial piety for the younger generation. By studying Tibetan scriptures, we will better understand the importance of filial piety in learning Buddhism. This sutra is only a filial piety sutra of Buddhism, which is worth studying.
Second, Sanzang is the will of the Buddha. Buddha had two wills before his death. One is the Buddhist scriptures, mainly monks. It tells us that after the death of the Buddha, taking precepts as a teacher and observing precepts means that the Buddha is alive. This is what we monks must abide by. Whether Buddhism has a future depends on how we look at Buddha's wishes. The other will is the Tibetan scriptures. Zhu Jingzhou, a layman, wrote a book entitled "Tibetan Scripture is the will of the Buddha to his disciples at home". His idea is reasonable, because the Tibetan scriptures say that the Buddha entrusted an orphan to the Tibetan Bodhisattva. What did he entrust to him in the Heavenly Palace in Heli? This range will be wide and the time will be long. It is from the death of the Buddha to Maitreya's becoming a Buddha that all sentient beings are included in this long period of time, with the emphasis on human nature and heaven. Why on earth, in heaven? Because people and all beings in heaven are instruments, all beings in heaven are good at practice. It is easy to become a Buddha, treat people and all beings in the sky, and more people will do the work of all beings. Including such a long time and such a wide range of beings, and of course all of us sitting here today. Therefore, this will involves a long time and a wide range, and also reflects the Buddha's deep compassion. He is afraid that we will fall into three evil ways and ask the bodhisattva for protection and rescue in many ways. This is like parents' exhortations and repeated exhortations at the end of their lives. Therefore, the Buddha talks about the Tibetan scriptures, and all ten Buddhas come to participate. Therefore, this will can also be said to be the common will of the ten buddhas. Master Hongyi couldn't help crying in the lecture hall while listening to Tibetan scriptures. Today, when we study this sutra, we can only get the idea of Bodhi's great wish if the Buddha's kindness is hard to repay, and we can't bear the decline of the Holy Road and the suffering of all beings. All of us should sincerely seek the Buddha and the Tao, come down to earth, live up to the Buddha's will, and inherit everything from the Tathagata. Let's look at the last article in the Tibetan scriptures. The Buddha said, "It's tiring to study in the sky." To sum up, there are four sentences: "There are many people in the sky now and in the future." Of course, including all of us. "I tell you diligently today, great magical power, great convenience, don't let it fall into all kinds of evil interests." Afraid that we will fall into three evil ways. What we have learned makes us realize that as Buddhists, we must know how to repay kindness and realize that it is very difficult to repay kindness.
Third, Tibetan scriptures are textbooks for dealing with people. The first blessing is to be a man, which is the basis of Mahayana Buddhism and pure land practice. The Tripitaka first puts forward the three blessings of pure industry, especially the first one, "Honor adoptive parents, serve teachers, not kill life with good deeds, and cultivate ten good deeds". Very specific, let us know that teaching us to learn Buddhism without leaving our daily life is actually how to be a person, how to live in the world, how to live at home, and even what to do in our daily life, such as birth, illness, death and so on. This is what the Tibetan scriptures tell us. If you can practice according to the Tibetan scriptures, you will be able to stop evil and good, eliminate disasters and take refuge. This kind of very specific guidance, as long as we can do it, will certainly get great benefits, so this book is very useful to our life and is a textbook of life.
Fourth, the Tibetan Scripture is a classic about the law of cause and effect. Causality is the core of Buddhism. If you don't understand cause and effect, you won't understand Buddhism. If you don't believe in cause and effect, you won't get the real benefits of Buddhism. Master Xu Yun made it very clear that the word "cause and effect" summed up what the Buddha said about Buddhism. This conclusion is not arbitrary. Without cause and effect, there is no dharma. He also said that "the word cause and effect cannot escape all saints, the world and the world!" Not only ordinary people can't escape, but also people with magical powers can't escape. He used the word "escape", which is very heavy! Master Yin Guangda said, "All Buddhas become Tao, and all sentient beings fall into three paths, without cause and without fruit." The reason why ordinary people go to black people one day is to kill thieves and commit adultery. Of course, what they get will suffer in the six divisions of the wheel of karma. There's nothing wrong with that. The cause of pollution, of course, will be the result of pollution. Only by planting clean causes can we get clean fruits. Master Yin Guang told us: "People who believe in cause and effect are always afraid, but if they are afraid, they dare not do evil;" People who don't believe in cause and effect are always arrogant and fearless. As the saying goes: Bodhisattva is afraid of cause, and all beings are afraid of fruit, which is exactly the case. " He also said: "Everyone believes in the cause and effect of the world, and everyone does not believe in the cause and effect of the world. "So, as a disciple of Buddhism today, we must know the cause and effect. This is a very important issue. Master Xu Yun proposed that the first premise of learning Taoism is to believe in cause and effect, and the second premise is to strictly observe the precepts, because if you don't believe in cause and effect, you can't keep the precepts. So this is close to each of us. The Tibetan scripture talks about cause and effect in detail, which is absolutely true. People who have no confidence regard this scripture as a myth, which is wrong and will not be really useful.
From the above four points, it shows that the Tripitaka is a Buddhist filial piety, a Buddhist will, a textbook of life and an important classic for studying cause and effect, so we can explain from these four aspects that this classic should be a compulsory classic for Buddhist disciples. This is the first part I want to say.
In the second part, I want to talk about the important contents of Tibetan scriptures. Let's briefly introduce the general meaning of the original wish sutra of Tibetan Bodhisattva. The word "underground storage" means the earth. The earth can plant everything and carry everything. Hiding is treasure. This also means storage. The earth can store all the treasures. Buddhism is practice, and the heart is like the earth. The mind is the treasure house of all wisdom and wealth, from which wisdom and wealth are born. As Master Huineng said when he was enlightened, "When you are self-sufficient, you are self-sufficient." Wisdom, three bodies and four hearts, five eyes and six roots are all original. "When you are self-centered, you can have all kinds of laws." All dharma is born from the heart, is the manifestation of self-nature, and is the essence of Buddhism. The Buddha realized this, and he used these things to enlighten us without reservation, hoping that we can break the mystery, get enlightenment, get happiness from suffering, and let us all realize what we have learned from the Buddha. This is the truth of understanding the universe and life. In other words, we should be educated to develop our inner treasure, so that we can get rid of worldly troubles and enjoy ourselves. If we don't show it, we will never know. As the classic says, "Like darkroom treasure, you can't see it without a lamp." There is a A Jin Harbor drill in the darkroom, but there is no light. Where can you find it? "No one says Dharma, although wisdom can't solve it." Bodhisattva is a person who consciously realizes him, seeks Buddhism and Taoism, and descends all beings. Bodhisattva is a person who does not seek happiness for himself, but hopes that all beings will be free from suffering. But many people mistakenly think that clay sculpture and wood carving are bodhisattvas, so both the land and the god of wealth are called bodhisattvas, which is wrong. "Original wish" is the fundamental wish, that is, the expression of self. It is the fundamental wish of the Bodhisattva to let all beings walk out of the sea of life and death and reach the other side of nirvana. Siksananda, a shaman from Hotan, means to rest diligently. Practice hard to become a wise man and stop greed and ignorance. Caution and wisdom are our self-nature, greed and ignorance are something we don't have, that is to say, we have to get rid of what we haven't got and restore what we have, so the meaning of Samana includes restoration and reduction. "Siksananda" means like studying. He is a native of Hetian Jade in the Western Regions. At the invitation of Wu Zetian, he came to Luoyang with 80 volumes of Hua Yan Jing, and later translated 80 volumes of Hua Yan Jing with Master Bodhi Six Fingers and I Ching. This is Dade, who is the translator of Tibetan scriptures. This is the title and translator of the Tibetan scriptures.
