Guangdong Province, named after Lingnan East Road and Guangnan East Road, is called "Guangdong" for short. Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province, is a coastal province at the southern tip of Chinese mainland. It is located in the south of Nanling, on the coast of the South China Sea, bordering Hong Kong, Macao, Guangxi, Hunan, Jiangxi and Fujian, and facing Hainan across the sea. It is divided into four regions: Pearl River Delta, East Guangdong, West Guangdong and North Guangdong, and governs 2 1 prefecture-level cities.
Before the Qin Dynasty, the ancestors of the Chinese nation, Nanyue people, had been engaged in agricultural activities in Guangdong Province, which was one of the earliest areas in the history of China and one of the earliest provinces where the capitalist mode of production appeared in China. By 1987, Guangdong's industrial output value has accounted for 79.6% of the province's total industrial and agricultural output value, becoming the leading sector of the national economy, and industries such as food, machinery, chemicals, textiles and sewing have become the pillar industries of Guangdong Province. Since 1989, Guangdong's GDP has been ranked first among 30 provinces and cities in China. Guangdong Province has become the largest economy province in China, accounting for 1/8 of the national total, surpassing Hongkong and Taiwan Province Province, becoming the province with the largest economic scale, the strongest comprehensive economic competitiveness and financial strength in China, reaching the level of upper-middle-income countries and moderately developed countries.
