Tongji University has a long history and an outstanding reputation. It is one of the earliest national universities in China and a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai. After 1 15 years of development, Tongji University has become a comprehensive, research-oriented and international university with distinctive characteristics and great influence at home and abroad, and its comprehensive strength ranks among the top universities in China.
The school started at 1907, German doctor erich? With the support of Chinese and German governments and all walks of life, Baolong founded Tongji German Medical College. 19 12, together with the newly established Tongji German Medical College, is called Tongji German Medical College. 19 17 was taken over by China people and renamed as Tongji Medical College, a private Tongji Medical College. 1923 was named Tongji University, and 1927 became a national university. 1937 After the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Tongji University moved to Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Yunnan for six times, and 1940 moved to Lizhuang Ancient Town, Yibin, Sichuan. 1946 after moving back to Shanghai, it developed into a comprehensive university famous for its five colleges of science, engineering, medicine, literature and law.
In the national adjustment of departments and colleges since 1949, Tongji University's original advantageous disciplines such as literature, law, medicine, science, mechanics, electricity, shipping, surveying and mapping either supported other universities or moved to the mainland as a whole. At the same time, Tongji has gathered more than 10 universities in China, and it is the largest and most comprehensive engineering university in the field of civil construction in China. After 1978, the school has undergone "two changes"-from a closed school to an open school, and the scope of disciplines has expanded from an engineering university with civil engineering as the main focus to a comprehensive university with science and engineering as the main focus. 1996, Shanghai Institute of Urban Construction and Shanghai Institute of Building Materials Industry were merged and listed as national "2 1 1 project" construction universities. In 2000, it merged with Shanghai Railway University and established the new Tongji University. In 2002, it was listed as a national "985 Project" to build colleges and universities. In 2003, Shanghai Institute of Aeronautical Technology was placed under the management of Tongji University. It was listed as a middle school in 2004. In 20 17, it was listed as a national world-class university to build a class A university.

The school actively expands international cooperation. Based on the cooperation with Germany, it has developed into a layout focusing on cooperation with Europe, expanding North America and radiating Asia and Africa. It has successively established 12 international cooperation platform colleges such as China-Germany, China-France, Italy, China-Finland, China-West and the United Nations, signed cooperation agreements with more than 200 overseas universities, and jointly established research centers with many multinational companies such as Volkswagen, Siemens, Bayer and IBM. At present, Tongji University has 29 professional colleges,1/affiliated hospitals and 13 affiliated primary and secondary schools. There are four main campuses in siping road, Jiading, Huxi and Hubei, covering an area of about 256 square kilometers, with a total construction area of 1.84 million square meters, and the library has a total collection of 4.55 million books.
