The Ministry of Education is the government department in charge of education and language work. To study and formulate the national education development plan and annual development plan, draw up the focus, scale, speed and steps of education development, and organize, guide and coordinate the implementation of the national education development plan, annual plan, education system reform and school-running system reform.

To study and formulate specific principles and policies for ethnic education and organize their implementation. Responsible for national basic education (including preschool education), special education, vocational and technical education, off-campus investigation education, adult education and higher education (including running schools by social forces), and coordinate, guide and supervise the education work of all districts, counties (countries) and relevant departments.

Responsible for the construction of the national team of teachers and education administrative cadres, and responsible for the qualification certification of primary and secondary school principals; Participate in the formulation of relevant policies and rules and regulations on personnel management in the national education system; Guide the reform of education and personnel system, and organize the implementation of employment distribution for graduates of normal universities.

Responsible for the management of national academic education and examination work. Work with relevant departments to study and formulate enrollment plans for schools of all levels and types throughout the country. Responsible for continuing education, adult self-study exams, and eliminating illiteracy among young people. Responsible for managing, coordinating and guiding the foreign affairs of the education system; Responsible for reviewing overseas students with college education or above; Responsible for coordinating educational exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Responsibilities of the Office of Education Bureau:

Responsible for the comprehensive coordination of important party affairs, government affairs and bureau affairs; Responsible for drafting the work plan of the Education Bureau, summarizing and synthesizing relevant written materials; Responsible for the organization and arrangement of Party committees, executive meetings, director's office meetings, bureau-level important meetings and the supervision of matters agreed at the meetings; Responsible for the supervision of important matters assigned by superior departments and bureau leaders.

Organize and coordinate the supervision, summary and reporting of various targets issued by the National Target Office; Responsible for secretarial, confidential, archives, letters and visits, confidentiality, security, information and logistics management; Responsible for overall management, external publicity and open government affairs; Responsible for organizing the compilation of educational yearbooks and educational records; Responsible for handling NPC proposal and CPPCC proposal; Responsible for rejuvenating the country through science and education.
