Private Hualian College, located in Hejing Road, Xiaoxintang, Dongpu, Tianhe District, Guangzhou, was founded in 1990. Co-founded by retired professors from some universities in Guangzhou, such as South China University of Technology, South China Normal University, Jinan University and Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University (formerly Guangdong University for Nationalities).

College was officially approved by Guangdong Provincial People's Government on April 26th, 1994. It is a private ordinary college with academic education and enrollment qualifications. In 2009, with the approval of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, the college obtained the qualification to recruit foreign students.

Most of the professors and associate professors in the college have taught in famous universities inside and outside the province, such as South China University of Technology, Jinan University, China Normal University, Zhong Da University and Guangwai University. There are more than 400 lecturers (including foreign teachers 15), and more than 70% of professional courses are taught by professors or associate professors.

There are 1 provincial key majors, 3 school-level specialty, 3 projects supported by special funds for private education in Guangdong Province, 2 provincial off-campus training bases and 13 school-level excellent courses.
