1943, Xiao Yuefu was admitted to the philosophy department of Wuhan University, which moved westward to Leshan at that time. He studied under Wan Zhuoheng (from Huangpi, Hubei), Zhang Zhenru and Professor Jin Kemu. During his college years, he joined the student progress organization and initiated the editing work of Luojia Magazine. At the same time, he was hired by Mr. Meng to teach "History of European Philosophy" in Zunjing Sinology College, edited the supplement Xia Ji of Western Daily, and actively participated in the activities of underground party organizations in Chengdu. 1949 joined the party in May, and was appointed by the Party organization to take over as a member of the Military Management Committee of West China University in February, and then remained as the director of the Marxist-Leninist Teaching and Research Section of the school. 1956 entered the advanced theory class of the Central Party School for further study. In the same year, at the invitation of President Li Da, he returned to Wuhan University to rebuild the philosophy department. 1957 was officially transferred to the philosophy department of Wuhan University, and since then he has served as secretary of the Party branch of the philosophy department and director of the teaching and research section of China philosophy history for a long time. In this post, he worked conscientiously for 40 years, and on this basis, he gradually established and formed the academic echelon of China philosophy history with Wuhan characteristics, which occupied a decisive position in the theoretical circle of liberal arts in China.
During the Cultural Revolution, Xiao Yuefu was designated as Li Da's "Three Villages Gang" and was persecuted. Although he was robbed of his property, criticized and lived in a "bullpen", he was determined not to change. On the day when he lived in the cowshed of Xiangyang Branch and worked hard to reform cattle, he began to write the book Wang Fuzhi and began to think about China's bumpy road from Ming and Qing Dynasties to modern ideological enlightenment.
During the ten years from 1976 to 1988, Xiao, like the intellectuals in China, ushered in the academic spring and published a series of important academic papers. There are a lot of researches on the history of ancient dialectics in China, Confucianism and Taoism in pre-Qin, philosophy in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and modern cultural thoughts. Adhere to the principle of combining theory with history, comparing China and the West, and linking ancient and modern times, emphasizing the unity of morality and professional accomplishment, paying equal attention to learning and thinking, and paying equal attention to being a man and studying. On the one hand, it should be purified into a history of philosophical cognition to reveal the special laws of philosophical contradictory movement; On the other hand, it should be generalized into philosophy and cultural history in order to reflect the whole process of human wisdom creation more comprehensively. This paper pays attention to the academic changes in Ming and Qing dynasties from the perspective of the generalization of philosophy history, and advocates that "from Wanli to May 4th" can be regarded as a continuous cultural process. From 65438 to 0978, Xiao Yuefu accepted the task of nine universities organized by the Ministry of Education to jointly compile the textbook "History of Philosophy in China" for undergraduates majoring in philosophy, and served as the editor-in-chief. This is a book on the history of philosophy with distinctive theoretical characteristics, in which Xiao Yuefu pays attention to the macro grasp of the history of philosophy. After its publication, the book was widely praised, translated into Korean and English respectively, which had a wide influence in international academic circles and won the first prize of excellent teaching materials from the State Education Commission. After 1990, with the change of academic environment at home and abroad, Xiao Yuefu considered the special road of oriental modernization from the overall situation of world cultural development. He regards economic integration and cultural diversity as the wings of globalization, emphasizes the occurrence and development of cultural diversity, breaks through Eurocentrism, and holds that human culture and China traditional culture are multi-source, multi-dimensional and developing. At this time, he used "Khan to pass Confucianism and Buddhism", and the "enlightenment" he advocated was not only a reflection on the laggards, but also a self-revitalization of the great national culture. He has the courage to deconstruct and reconstruct traditional culture, the confidence to absorb foreign excellent culture, and the strength to participate in the worldwide "contention of a hundred schools of thought", and has made due contributions to the new development of human culture. Xiao Yuefu's cultural philosophy has exerted great influence on international and domestic academic circles.
