The Development Course of Shanghai Yan Baohang Social Welfare Foundation
In the past 30 years, China has experienced explosive economic development, which has broken many original social welfare mechanisms and produced many socially disadvantaged groups. Faced with the overwhelming demand for assistance, Shanghai residents and residents of other cities put forward the initiative of establishing non-profit charities to cope with the current situation that the welfare system is stretched. In response to this initiative, in 199 1, Yan Baohang's children and friends proposed to establish the Shanghai Yan Baohang Education Foundation. After investigation, the Shanghai Municipal Government considered it necessary and gave strong support to the Foundation. Shanghai Yan Baohang Education Foundation was formally established on 199 1 April 1. Today, 30 million RMB donated by relatives and friends has become a smile on the faces of patients and students. This includes:

65438-0992 In order to get rid of the backward state of oral technology in Shanghai and improve the level of oral health care, the Foundation sponsored ten Shanghai dental technicians to go to Japan for training and learn advanced technology.

During the period of 1994, the Foundation held music classes in summer to support the music education of young people in Shanghai. Since that year, the Foundation has donated 200,000-400,000 RMB to Xuhui District of Shanghai every year to help poor middle school students in the district.

In 200 1 year, the Foundation donated RMB 1 1 10,000 yuan to a primary school in mashan county, a poor mountainous area in Guangxi, for the renovation of school buildings.

In March 2005, with the approval of Shanghai Social Organization Administration, Yan Baohang Education Foundation was renamed as Shanghai Yan Baohang Social Welfare Foundation, and then it was decided to add two areas of assistance: assistance for the disabled and prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.

In the same year, the Foundation sponsored Ms. Zhu Changqing, a neuromuscular patient, to attend the World Congress on Neuromuscular Diseases in France, and provided her with necessary attendance and daily hardware equipment, amounting to more than 70,000 yuan.

In the same year165438+1October 12, the Foundation and the Preparatory Committee of Shanghai Evergreen Foundation, together with the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, organized a "Different Day" activity for patients with neuromuscular diseases in Shanghai, which was the first centralized interactive activity organized for patients with neuromuscular diseases in Shanghai.

In 2006, the Foundation signed a cooperation agreement with the Preparatory Committee of Evergreen Fund to raise money and publicize for patients with neuromuscular diseases (MDA) in order to coordinate donations to this special group.

In June of the same year, 5438+ 10, the Foundation cooperated with the Guangxi provincial government to donate three 2000 autotransfusion machines with a value of1500,000 yuan and a value of10.2 million yuan to the third-class first-class hospital in Nanning.

In 2007, the living allowance for 300 poor students in Baise High School and Baise National High School in Baise City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was 300,000 yuan.

With the strong support of Shanghai Association Bureau and Shanghai Foreign Economic and Trade Commission, the Foundation is led by the Council and managed by more than ten cadres of the Foundation. At present, the work of the foundation has been assisted by dozens of volunteers. The average annual fund-raising amount of the Foundation is about 2 million yuan, so the Foundation has become one of the outstanding charities in China. I believe that on the basis laid by Mr. Yan Baohang a century ago, the Foundation will continue to develop and provide assistance to those in need in the future.

Born in danger

A century ago, China's traditional ideas were challenged by new western ideas, which made generations of young intellectuals in China strive to find a way out for the troubled motherland. There are many legends among them. A young man from the northeast of China is a member of this powerful army.

At the end of last century, he was born in a poor peasant family. He has been raising pigs since childhood, because his family is poor and he can't afford to go to school. I don't know how many times, he was attracted to the window of the private school classroom in the village by the reading sound of his peers. When Mr. Xue was pleasantly surprised to find that the performance of the "bystanders" outside the window actually exceeded that of the formal students, Mr. Xue, who was kind and cherished talents, accepted him for free.

Later, as a teacher in Fengtian, he was exposed to some Christian teachings and the latest demands brought by the May 4th Movement, especially the ideas of "serving the society" and "saving the country through education", which changed his life track. He firmly believes that only education can free China from the painful situation of warlord scuffle and Japanese-Russian colonial rule. At the beginning of the 20th century, Northeast China was still under the oppression of feudal warlords and Japanese and Russian colonialists. War, hunger and disease make most Japanese people on the verge of death, and countless children are out of school and wandering the streets. Out of indignation and sympathy, this excellent normal graduate resolutely gave up the temptation of high officials and generous salaries, and founded the "School for Poor Children" with his bare hands, and admitted poor children to school for free. At that time, the names of young school-running people spread all over Fengtian City, and it was at this time that the famous Guo Songling and his wife became members of the school board. The famous rumbled Zhang Xueliang was also moved by his kindness. He not only gave generously, but also asked senior military generals to take the lead in donating money. Since then, the young headmaster's life has been linked with charity. This is Yan Baohang.

1936 when the Japanese army occupied Shenyang, the "Fengtian School for Poor Children" had developed into a perfect educational institution with four branch schools and an experimental factory. At that time, about a thousand students witnessed the school being closed under the bayonet of the Japanese invaders. So far, the school has trained tens of thousands of graduates, many of whom will become outstanding talents in the future.

From 65438 to 0935, Yan Baohang, who returned from studying in Britain, became the first director-general of the YMCA from China. After the Japanese occupation of Fengtian. Follow Zhang Xueliang to organize the anti-Japanese national salvation movement in Shanhaiguan. At a meeting held in Nanchang, Yan Baohang left a deep impression on Chiang Kai-shek and his wife. Dr. Spin valued him as Zhang Xueliang, and with his Christian background, Yan Baohang was appointed by Chiang Kai-shek and his wife Song Meiling and invited him to be the director-general of the New Life Movement.

During the eight-year Anti-Japanese War, Yan Baohang made full use of his position to rescue and save countless people, including young students, exiles, degenerate literati and people who were unjustly imprisoned. From Nanchang to Shanghai, from Nanjing to Wuhan, he turned the great retreat into a great rescue. In Chongqing, he is also a member of the air defense rescue team. Every time a Japanese plane bombed Chongqing, he was responsible for the aftermath and personally directed the transport of corpses. And his home in Chongqing has naturally become a refuge for countless refugees. Mr. and Mrs. Yan Baohang spent all their money to support their family. If the salary is not enough, I will go to the streets to sell my possessions. From then on, people began to praise Yan's kindness with the title of "Yan's old shop".

1943 Chongqing has become Casablanca in the East. Just as some people are fighting for money, power and reputation, Yan Baohang has been keenly aware that the battlefield in China and other battlefields in the world has reached the point where it can affect the overall situation. With superb social activities, he obtained the secret information of the German plan to attack the Soviet Union-Barbarossa in May 194 1, and successfully handed it over to Stalin, which won valuable time for the Soviet Union and the German army to join forces. Shortly thereafter, he once again obtained detailed information on the military deployment of the Japanese Kwantung Army in northeast China, which accelerated the liberation of the Northeast by the Soviet Red Army and Japan's surrender. Millions of lives will be saved again. This is a feat of changing the fate of the world and writing a new chapter in the history of world war and humanitarianism. 1995, Russian President Yeltsin signed an order to award Yan Baohang the 50th anniversary medal of victory in the Great Patriotic War in recognition of his contribution to the victory of the Second World War.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Yan Baohang was elected as the chairman of the government of northern Liaoning Province in 1947. 1949 Up to now, he has served as a member of the Preparatory Committee of the First National Committee of the China People's Political Consultative Conference, deputy director of the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, director of the Treaty Committee, and director of the China People's Political Consultative Conference. In the face of help seekers, Yan Baohang, who is in his twilight years, is still responsive. He not only supported their lives with his own salary, but also spoke up for the victims of unjust, false and wrong cases. Even Premier Zhou Enlai praised Yan Lao for his brave words and asked him not to be an "old priest"! Yan Baohang's life spans different historical periods, witnessing the insolence of the Japanese, the shortsightedness of the Americans, the disintegration of the Kuomintang and the rise of the * * * people. He made great achievements in his life, but what impressed us most was his compassionate heart. His spirit of "treating others sincerely and helping others" has linked a person who has achieved success through self-struggle with the fate of countless people.

Charity in Yan Baohang

19 18 April18 Yan Baohang established Fengtian School for poor children, with the aim of "collecting poor children who can't afford to go to school, giving them the knowledge and skills necessary for life, and paying attention to moral education, so that their personality can be completely fulfilled". Students do not charge tuition fees, and provide books and stationery free of charge. By the September 18th Incident of 193 1, the school for poor children had developed into four branch schools and a factory, and trained more than 10,000 students.

At that time, there were many poor housewives in Fengtian city who had to go out to work because of their living reasons, but their children were left unattended. 1927, Yan Baohang and Guo Songling's wife Han Shuxiu initiated the establishment of the Fengtian Workers' Association, with Han Shuxiu and Yan Baohang as the president and vice president respectively. There are hospital doctors, nannies, nurses, chefs, maids, hospital attendants and so on. In addition to organizing games, workers are also educated in childish literacy and children's etiquette.

During his fifteen years in exile, Yan Baohang made great efforts for the refugees in exile in Northeast China. /kloc-at the beginning of 0/8, he solved the problem of food, clothing, housing and transportation for refugees. When he arrived in Nanjing, he came to you as a fellow countryman and an acquaintance, always trying to solve their difficulties. After arriving in Wuhan and Chongqing, he set up the Northeast Refugee Relief Committee. He called on the authorities to pay attention to the relief for refugees. 1939, the Chief Executive Kong Xiangxi allocated 300,000 yuan to build a refugee textile factory to accommodate more than 200 refugees.

During his stay in Chongqing, Yan Baohang not only served as the battlefield party and government design member of the Political Department of the National Military Commission, but also served as the consultant of the Central Relief Committee of the National Government, the design member of the Chongqing Mobilization Committee, the director of the campaign to persuade the capital to raise bonds, and the head of the relief team of the Chongqing Air Rescue Committee. 194 1 On June 5, 2008, the Japanese army attacked Chongqing at night, causing thousands of people to suffocate in air defense tunnels. It's midsummer and stinks. Yan Baohang, who is in charge of the aftermath, personally directed the corpse transport at the scene. He didn't sleep for days and nights, but he fainted in the mud. Engaging in public service is in line with his thoughts and feelings. In these positions, he did his best and did many things that benefited the poor people.

An old friend once commented: At that time, men, women, people of all colors, heroes of all walks of life, heroes without food, and people wandering the streets all went to Yan's house to eat a bowl of rice and drink a mouthful of water. Lao Yan is a Buddha born to thousands of families. He has the elegance of Meng Changjun, but not the wealth of Meng Changjun. 1942 In order to support the growing expenses of this family, Yan Baohang started to work part-time in Daming Company. The monthly salary was 5,000 yuan, about ten times that of the government at that time. But this does not seem to change Yan's increasingly stretched financial situation. Mrs. Yan often has to sell her possessions to get through the end of the month. As early as Nanjing, they began to call Yan's family "Yan's old shop" to show kindness. There are many celebrities who have stayed and lived here for a long time, including Shen Junru, Fan Changjiang, Tao Xingzhi, Du Chongyuan, Li Gongpu's wife and children, Gao Chongmin, Lu Guangji, Yu Dafu and Han Leran. As for people who come here to recuperate, find jobs, treat diseases and even get married, there are countless people.

Yan Baohang and General Zhang Xueliang

As early as 19 16, Yan Baohang, then the president of the YWCA in Fengtian, met Zhang Xueliang, a young marshal, and they often participated in various activities of the YMCA together.

19 18 When Yan Baohang opened a school for poor children in Fengtian, Zhang Xueliang made a generous donation when he heard the news, and mobilized friends from all walks of life in the military and political circles to support Yan Baohang's charity. When Guo Songling, a famous northeast warrior, failed to fight Feng, Guo and his wife Han Shuxiu both died by the river. Yan Baohang and Zhang Xueliang were extremely indignant at the failure of the rescue. With the generous support of Zhang Xueliang, Yan Baohang decided to study abroad. When Zhang Xueliang left Yan Baohang, he said sadly, You can all go. Where can I go?

After Yan Baohang, who was studying in Britain from 65438 to 0929, learned that Zhang Zuo Lin was killed in Huanggutun, Shenyang, Yan Baohang resolutely terminated his studies and returned to China early to help Zhang Xueliang. After the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Yan Baohang closely cooperated with Zhang Xueliang's secret activities to form the Northeast Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army; 1936 After the Xi Incident, Zhang Xueliang was imprisoned. Yan Baohang spared no effort to rescue Zhang Xueliang and went to Fenghua to meet Chiang Kai-shek. The failure of rescue became his lifelong regret.

When Yan Mingguang, the daughter of 199 1, was entrusted by Ms. Deng to visit Zhang Xueliang in Hawaii, General Zhang inquired deeply about the situation and suggested setting up an education foundation to commemorate Mr. Zhang's spirit of helping others and treating others sincerely.

A century-old shop, in memory of Mr. Yan Baohang, successors inherited and carried forward his spirit of "being sincere to others and helping others". 199 1 year, at the initiative of Yan Baohang's children and old friends, Shanghai Yan Baohang Education Foundation was established. General Zhang Xueliang, 90 years old, wrote a name for the foundation. Since its establishment, the foundation has provided cash and in-kind donations to people in urgent need, totaling more than 30 million yuan. All donations come from the selfless donations of Mr. Yan Baohang's relatives and friends, all of which are used for social welfare undertakings.
