East China Normal University is a comprehensive research university sponsored by the state, headed by the Ministry of Education, and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. The school was founded in June 195 1 month 1 6, and was transferred to some colleges and departments of universities such as Daxia University (1924) and Guanghua University (1925).
1972 The school merged with Shanghai Normal University and Shanghai Institute of Physical Education and was renamed Shanghai Normal University. 1978 school was once again recognized as a national key university. 1980 the name of east China normal university was restored. 1986 was approved by the State Council as one of the 33 institutions of higher learning to set up graduate schools. 1996 was listed in the "2 1 1 project" national key construction university. 1997- 1998, Shanghai Preschool Teachers College, Shanghai Education College and Shanghai Second Education College merged successively.
