Qi Lin, born in the 19th year of Qing Daoguang (A.D. 1839), was named Chen Di, Fujian Taishou. He was a juren of Jiazi Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (A.D. 1864). Qing Bingzi was a scholar in the second year of Guangxu (AD 1876), worked as an editor, studied politics in Shaanxi, and then served as a supervisor in Zhejiang Road. Qi Lin's greatest achievement was his education, which initiated the modern education in Hangzhou.
In the 23rd year of Guangxu reign in Qing Dynasty (AD 1897), Qi Lin founded Qiushi Academy in the original site of Puchi Temple in Puchang Lane, Hangzhou. Qiushi Academy later developed into a national famous Zhejiang University.
