In the process of compiling, we discussed and revised the content and arrangement of the textbook chapter by chapter. The content of teaching materials has been further selected, and the specialized teaching materials of microbiology unrelated to the training objectives have been deleted, which has supplemented the new achievements developed in recent years, especially enriched the pathogenesis and immune mechanism related to infectious diseases and immune diseases, and guided the diagnosis and prevention of diseases. The chapter arrangement has also been adjusted. In view of the importance of SARS coronavirus and the fact that we divide it into several sections, we put it in an appropriate position after the influenza virus section. In recent years, people have a profound understanding of the nature and harmfulness of prions, but their biological status has not yet been determined, so this independent chapter is temporarily placed at the end of the virus chapter. For easy reference, the index column of this edition contains items mainly related to medical microbiology. It is suggested that the teaching hours of medical microbiology course should be 60 ~ 80 hours.
