Guangzhou listed the development of software industry as the key development field during the 11th Five-Year Plan period. The establishment of the software factory has set up a platform for communication and dialogue between schools and enterprises, laid a good foundation for further integration of Industry-University-Research, provided an important platform for undergraduate and graduate students of software college to practice in school, and built a bridge from theory to practice and from practice to theory for students. Students can consolidate and master the theories and methods in textbooks in practical software engineering projects; On the other hand, the problems encountered in the actual project are returned to the classroom and books to find the answers, which enhances the interest in learning.

The college is also going to use the platform of software factory to collect the problems of internationally renowned enterprises and guide students to carry out extracurricular scientific and technological activities in combination with these problems. The purpose of doing this is to further improve the practical ability of college students in software engineering and improve the quality of training software talents.
CUHK software factory is also an important window for universities and markets. Teachers of the college can take the scientific research results to the software factory of CUHK for transformation and incubation, and then push them to the market to create benefits. CUHK Software Factory invested 800,000 yuan in the Software College to set up a student virtual venture fund, which was jointly managed by the Software College and the Software Factory, and was used to fund the student team to start a virtual venture within the Software Factory. Under the organization of the college, students of the software college can apply for virtual venture capital from the software factory.
