Chengdu University of Technology was founded in 1956, and its predecessor was Chengdu Institute of Geology. 1993 was renamed Chengdu University of Technology, and 200/KLOC-0 was established with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

Chengdu Institute of Geology and Chengdu Institute of Technology, the main bodies of Chengdu University of Technology, were once key universities of the former Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Land and Resources. In 2000, the school management system was transformed into the joint construction of the central and local governments, mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government. Now it is a key university in Sichuan Province.
