To put it simply, the interest we generally emphasize is due to professional considerations, and the postgraduate entrance examination needs to subdivide the subject direction from the profession.
Most colleges and universities in China apply for exams and enroll students according to two disciplines, but many operate and implement the examination bibliography and specific topics according to the first-level disciplines. After enrollment, freshmen will decide their research topics, which is what we usually call the research direction, according to specific adjustments such as choosing tutors and choosing directions. This research direction is to study a specific problem in a certain subject field, so it will be misunderstood as "your major" by ordinary people. In fact, this research direction is what we usually call two disciplines, or even a tertiary discipline. For example, under the major of "Accounting", there are subjects such as "Computer Accounting" and "Financial Management".
It is very helpful for us to choose a major according to our interests. Many times, when we register for postgraduate entrance examination, because of the difference between undergraduate education and postgraduate education, many people's interests are based on professional considerations, not disciplines.
Take the student who likes history as an example. First of all, history in the popular sense refers to political, economic and cultural history, and on this basis, it expands the history of dynasties, nationalities and countries, as well as some related marginal disciplines, such as the history of science and technology, historical theory and history. Furthermore, archaeology, anthropology, classical philology and international relations can also be the starting points for learning history. Knowing these detailed subjects about history, the next step is to make it clear that you are interested in every direction. Or just because you like history or just because you have a soft spot for one direction? Only by considering these problems clearly can we have a deeper understanding of the majors we are interested in and make a correct decision to apply for the exam.
There are differences between disciplines and majors in science, engineering and liberal arts. Under any big discipline category, there will be small branches, and each discipline direction will be included in the big professional catalogue. Not only the history mentioned above has many subtle branches of disciplines, but also management has such disciplines as enterprise management, administrative management, human resource management, library management, labor and social security. Although each direction has something in common, it is not closely related. If you are only interested in management, then when you choose your major, you should really think about which subject direction you are interested in management. If you insist on choosing a research direction related to management with your enthusiasm for management without thinking clearly, you can only let your interest be destroyed by reality, and then regret your original impulse in front of reality.
