Touching China with Motherly Love —— Interview with Wen Yang, Vice President of Sohu
Moderator: Good morning, friends of Sohu. Welcome to Sohu guest chat room.
Following the 200 1 first "Top Ten Outstanding Mothers in China" selection, the ongoing second "Top Ten Outstanding Mothers in China" selection activity has once again attracted the attention of the whole society.
Since the launch of the activity, hundreds of outstanding mothers from all over the country have participated in the selection, and their deeds highlight the indispensable role of women in China in promoting family and social harmony.
Starting from today, our Sohu Maternal and Child Channel will report these new mothers with excellent personal qualities, academic qualifications and a strong sense of family and social responsibility. I hope their spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement can arouse your resonance and support. At the same time, I hope everyone will actively participate in our activities and jointly advocate the whole society to carry forward the traditional virtues and social customs of loving, respecting and helping mothers.
Today, we are especially honored to invite Ms. Wen Yang, the chairman of Shandong Cai Ying Vocational and Technical College, the candidate who participated in the second "Top Ten Outstanding Mothers in China" award and commendation activity, to our live broadcast room. Her son is excellent, her husband and wife have a very good relationship, a successful career and many friends. She is very happy and busy.
First of all, ask Teacher Yang, why did you participate in the second China Top Ten Outstanding Mothers Selection?
Wen Yang: Participating in such activities is a good opportunity for me to learn and share. I can make many new friends through such activities. From these excellent women, I can learn a lot of new things, new life experiences, some new ideas in life and career, and get in touch with some fresh information. At the same time, participating in such activities is also a good opportunity to share.
I am a mother and I have an excellent son. In the process of cultivating him for more than 20 years, I have been studying hard to be a qualified mother. Now my son has grown up, is financially and spiritually independent, has achieved academic success and is in good health. I am proud of him. Some of my experiences and insights, if valuable, are willing to share with you. At the same time, I am an educator. In the practice of teaching and management, our college has been exploring and applying some educational concepts, devoting itself to cultivating qualified talents, and has also achieved some results. I am also willing to share my experience with colleagues in the education field and do my part to cultivate more talents.
My personal entrepreneurship and development have experienced the process of studying abroad and returning to China to start a business. I am a returnee, and I am very pleased to be able to play my professional expertise and make contributions in this hot land of the motherland. I am also willing to share with more friends, especially those returnees who have not returned to the motherland. In this fertile land of ours, we can change our destiny through our unremitting efforts and knowledge, and we can realize our ideals through our own efforts.
The last factor is that women have many social roles in society. As a woman, I feel that I have a lot of experience in the workplace. As a leader, I have many years of team leadership experience. I also have my own small family, and I am also playing the multiple roles of wife, mother and daughter-in-law. My family is also very harmonious and happy. As a woman, I can balance my career, family and study through my own efforts. I am willing to share these experiences with my sisters by participating in such activities, so as to do better and fulfill the dual responsibilities of family and society.
Moderator: I read your relevant materials and know that you have a child named Yang Xia, who is also a student of Cambridge University. Everyone knows Cambridge University. Studying at Cambridge University is very successful. How did you raise such a son? Everyone must be very interested.
Wen Yang: My child was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge University. When he was studying at Trinity College, his alumni were celebrities like Newton. This year, he directly obtained a doctorate from Cambridge University, worked as a doctor in the laboratory where the double helix structure of DNA was discovered, and was also a biological laboratory directly under the British Medical Research Association, and won a full Hodgkin scholarship. This scholarship is only 10 in Cambridge, which is twice as high as the ordinary British scholarship. I am really proud of him. At present, I am doing a summer internship at the Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong, a world-famous financial institution. He is an investment analyst in a bank here, specializing in investment and financial consulting in Chinese mainland. This child can now become such a healthy, sunny and all-round child who can adapt to international competitiveness. My education method for him is holistic education and random education. My educational philosophy is that life is education. In this educational process, as a mother, I play several roles, one is a demonstrator and the other is a provider, for him.
Moderator: Can you tell me specifically what you pay special attention to when your child is very young, including living habits, some learning attitudes or what you will pay attention to when you socialize with your child?
Wen Yang: Just now, I talked about my idea of random education, that is, I will not design an outline in advance in my life, but I will seize this educational opportunity in any situation in my life and I will give him random education. Sometimes I will cultivate my own moral character, and sometimes I will develop my own habits. For example, some parents may simply pay attention to their children's IQ or academic performance. I am more concerned about their all-round growth. For example, playing games with other children is also an opportunity to educate him. Sometimes he may quarrel with other students, but through this example, he can realize that if he wants to cooperate with others, he needs to communicate and negotiate with others, sometimes he needs to compromise, sometimes he needs to be modest, and sometimes he needs to convince others to make his own gesture. In the process of playing with children, learn to associate with others and learn to cooperate with others. Take many examples in life as an opportunity to educate him.
Moderator: By the way, Teacher Yang, what kind of role model do you think has the most extensive and effective influence on your son?
Wen Yang: Outlook on life and values means that you can do something for the society and realize your life ideal through your own efforts. For example, diligence, honesty, self-confidence, perseverance, cooperation with others, social responsibility, using time and cherishing time all have a subtle influence on children. We can do something. Yang Xia's father and I are leading our elite colleges and universities forward, with nearly 20,000 students and 1000 employees following us in this undertaking. All these require us to set an example in morality and that we have no obvious defects in all aspects. These behaviors are all their own influences on children, and now children are doing very well in this respect. I mentioned in the book Yang Wenjiaozi that I usually store these deposits in my children's mental bank, such as self-confidence and tenacity. When he needs these, when he encounters setbacks and difficulties in life, I withdraw this deposit from the psychological bank to overcome his difficulties in life.
Moderator: I know that you are also the most popular returnee. Do you think the life and experience of returnees have any influence on yourself?
Wen Yang: This has an impact. For example, I am an educator. In terms of educational concept, it is just like the three-oriented talent view mentioned by Deng Xiaoping, that is, the talent view facing the world, the future and modernization. As an educator, or when educating children, I always take into account that the talents we cultivate are facing the situation of international competition and global competition. When we do our work, we should have a global perspective when considering problems and have multicultural recognition in international exchanges. This is exactly what we want. I want him to become an international talent. He can adapt to this environment on the international stage and on the platform of participating in international competition in the future.
Moderator: You said that from loving one to loving 10,000, what kind of love is this? Can you explain it?
Wen Yang: This kind of love is a kind of maternal love, from love for one's own children to love for 10,000 children around me. Specifically, I sum up love into three kinds, one is selfless love, the other is scientific love, and the other is introduction love. Selfless love means that families don't impose their wishes on their children, but take their children's good development as the premise and their development as the starting point and destination. Some parents, is the original more traditional view of raising children to prevent old age. I think our love for our children should be selfless. As long as he is better than me and beneficial to him, it should be such selfless love.
The second love is a kind of scientific love. Scientific love is to cultivate a child into a person with all-round development in all aspects, such as morality, business, IQ, EQ and social adaptability, instead of valuing wisdom over morality or just cultivating him into a bookworm with high scores and low abilities. It should be a person who has grown in all aspects and can adapt to future competition and social needs. The introduction of love, we raise children, not to let him stay with us to honor his parents, but to cultivate him into a person who is pushed to the society, can stand on his own feet, can be independent of his family, can serve the society and is beneficial to the society.
The so-called 10 thousand love is also these three kinds of love. I now run Shandong Cai Ying College, with 10,000 children by my side. As long as these children are good for their success, they will spend money to meet the needs of cultivating talents. The 1 million-volume library is digital, and the national model library is full of trees. It is a provincial garden city unit with an investment of 40 million to 50 million. There are also artistic quality training centers and college students' activity centers. , is also carrying out the Dean's warm-hearted project to help poor students, which is "students first, sincere service" for these students. Second, the implementation of scientific love for students is based on "specialty"+"modern skills"+"mental outlook". We should adapt to the needs of the society in terms of majors, strengthen internships and practical training in terms of skills, and there are many societies in terms of spiritual outlook training, including employment and entrepreneurship associations, youth volunteer associations, literary societies, and art societies. In order to make these students gain self-confidence during their school days, while participating in these activities, they will exercise their ability to go to society and adapt to social needs in the future. Finally, our "love" for students is a market-oriented talent training model. What kind of people does society need? No matter for one child or 10 thousand children, these three kinds of love are being implemented
Moderator: Teacher Yang heard that your cell phone is turned on 24 hours at work. For example, in the middle of the night, if a classmate has difficulty finding you, can you still treat it peacefully?
Wen Yang: I keep my computer on for 24 hours, because I'm afraid that if there is anything that needs me, I can't find it, which will affect the handling of these things. In fact, we have a perfect system to ensure the safety of students. This year, the number of students has reached 20,000, and every 150 students are accompanied by a class teacher. There are also electricity safety systems, safety monitoring systems, and many measures to ensure their safety. In case they need me, they can find me in an emergency. Usually there is a dean's mailbox, and some small things will be handled by the management, but if it is a big thing, he will find me and I will be there when I am needed. Just like my child wrote in "Wen Yang Jiao Zi", he knows that his mother's love for him is with him. Even if he is overseas, he knows that his mother will be there as long as he needs it. In fact, I think it is a sense of responsibility, which is an unshirkable responsibility for one child, 10,000 children and 20,000 children.
Moderator: You have 10,000 children. Where did these ten thousand children come from?
Wen Yang: It started eight years ago when it was 1998. At that time, the national colleges and universities had not expanded their enrollment. There were 300,000 candidates in Shandong Province that year, but 200,000 candidates failed the list. In other words, if no one gives him another chance to study in the university, he will become a failed student and miss out on the university. In this case, the slogan we put forward at that time was the college dream of failed students. 1998, Cai Ying college was established. In its first year, 720 students registered. Many students signed up that year, and we also advertised in the local Qilu Evening News on 1998. Due to the limited school conditions, we stopped receiving calls and letters, which was one of the few in that year. In order to ensure the quality, we stopped registering. By 2004, because we have been paying attention to honesty all these years, we take every student who comes to our college seriously, are responsible for them and have a good social reputation. In 2004, it broke through 10,000 people and became the first private university with 10,000 people in Shandong Province. At present, there are 15000 students in school, and one month later, after the new students report, the number of students in school will reach 20000. As the mother of 20,000 children, she is a glorious and happy mother, but this responsibility, just saying that she is on for 24 hours, means that she feels a great responsibility and dare not slack off.
Moderator: Teacher Yang, how do you understand the family responsibility as a mother and the social responsibility as a female entrepreneur? Do you think the role of mother is related to the role of entrepreneur?
Wen Yang: Whether you are a mother or a leader, you should have a sense of responsibility. Personally, I think these two roles come down in one continuous line, as I said before, from loving one to loving ten thousand. After the baby was born 22 years ago, I still remember the moment after the baby was born, he was lying in another small bed. I looked at him from a distance, and I felt I couldn't get rid of this little life. This sense of responsibility will accompany me all my life. When the child was young, he gave him a lot mentally and materially, gave up his spare time and personal interests, and spent a lot of time and energy on him to educate him. Now he has grown up, but thousands of students have come into my sight and come to my side. I feel that the parents of these children, who entrusted their children to me, have great trust in me and the team. This industry is very special. There are defective products in other industries, as well as defective products. There are no defective products, no defective products and no accidents in this industry. This feeling is very stressful, and this responsibility is particularly heavy. In terms of quantity, in case any child has any problems and conditions, it may be one in ten thousand, but it is 100% for a family. Our responsibility is not only to ensure their safety, but also to ensure the cultivation of talents, to set up good courses, to have good teachers, good teaching quality and good employment system, and to find good jobs.
We have a luxurious leading group. We are a private school with a flexible mechanism. In our leading group, there are six or seven principals from public universities, all of which are local public universities, such as Shandong University, Shandong Normal University, Jinan University, Shandong University of Political Science and Law, Shandong Weihai Branch, and Finance College. These principals are the dean and vice president of our college. Everyone joked that the dean of our elite college is one. In addition, we also have a teaching team composed of experts and scholars, a student management team composed of more than 100 class teachers led by demobilized cadres at the regimental level, and an employment recommendation team composed of the Employment Department and the vice presidents of secondary colleges. Every secondary college has a regimental demobilized cadre as the vice president in charge of student affairs, and every secondary college has an employment vice president in charge of employment, which is the first in China. There is also a relatively strong administrative team. These teams are also the guarantee for us to do our duty as educators for these students. Our aim is "students first, sincere service". Every day when we walk into the teaching building, the first thing we see is these eight words, which let our employees see, remember and practice. In short, whether it is a mother or a female entrepreneur or a female educator, the most important thing is to have a sense of responsibility and a series of guarantees to fulfill our responsibilities.
Moderator: Do you think the role of mother is related to the role of entrepreneur?
Wen Yang: For me, these two roles come down in one continuous line. Some newspapers say that I am now doing education and running a school, which is an enlarged maternal love. At first, my love for one of the children changed the course of my life. I used to be in Shandong Polytechnic University, and now I am an English teacher in Shandong University.
Compere: You study English abroad.
Wen Yang: After having my own children, I became interested in children's English. At first, I started a children's English school. From children's English school to the establishment of higher vocational college-Cai Ying College. This process is that I became interested in children's English and started to run a children's English school and a Cai Ying College. This is an ongoing educational dream. There are many experiences and ideas since the beginning of education.
Moderator: Teacher Yang, your family once won the "National Model Family of Five Good Civilized Families". I am a national "March 8th" red flag bearer, an expert in early childhood education for returnees, and concurrently hold several social positions such as the Executive Committee of Shandong Women's Federation and the Deputy Secretary-General of Shandong Women Entrepreneurs Association. How do you take care of it?
Wen Yang: As a woman, she should play the dual roles of family and society. I don't think these two roles are contradictory, but I think they should be balanced.
A harmonious and happy life can only be achieved by giving consideration to both. As myself, I am a perfectionist. As a mother and wife, my favorite sentence is that there is an artistic conception in To Oak, "I must be a kapok beside you, standing with you in the image of a tree." I am not the escort of my husband and children, so I sacrificed myself to teach my children. My favorite realm is growing up with my family. On the one hand, as a child's demonstrator, you can set an example for your child, on the other hand, you can make your life more valuable, and on the other hand, you can show your charm in the process of flying with your husband. I think women who work hard are the most beautiful. As the Eight Honors and Eight Shames said, we are proud of hard work, ashamed of leisure and hate work.
Moderator: Everyone is very interested. Why is your family so good and harmonious? What's the secret?
Wen Yang: The three of us are best friends. When we are together, we talk about everything. We are very close and trust each other. When we are together, it is the happiest time and the most unforgettable time. If there is any secret, it is love, respect, mutual understanding, humility, tolerance and forbearance.
Moderator: Our online mother-in-law forum is the best. How to deal with the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law is the most distressing thing for married women. For example, there are often female friends on the forum who say that there may be various frictions between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. How do you handle it to ensure a better relationship with your mother-in-law?
Wen Yang: My mother-in-law has passed away, but now I have a new mother-in-law. I am a good wife in the eyes of my mother-in-law. As our daughter-in-law, the traditional role should be filial piety. What is filial piety? Following her is filial piety. My mother-in-law is kind and enthusiastic and has her own way of life, but as for me, I respect her way of life. Of course, I have our life, and my mother-in-law has her lifestyle. She is very enthusiastic, but because of her illness, she is aphasia and can't speak, so she is very impatient. But when she is impatient, I am like a sponge, never impatient, just follow her. When she said something, when she couldn't make it clear, I tried to understand what she meant and patiently completed what she wanted to do. I also understand what you just said.
Moderator: Because the mother-in-law loves her son very much, another woman comes in and two women grab a man's feeling. Many people say that this is an awkward relationship between two women and a man.
Wen Yang: Fortunately, my mother-in-law is more open-minded. She prefers to see me and my husband. My mother-in-law and I have never had an argument. She may be angry with her daughter and son, but she has never been angry with me. I tried to understand her, as her role, as her mood, as a patient, her mentality at that time was mainly tolerance, understanding and filial piety. Because this generation is not easy, and my husband and I, we both want to do something for the elderly, for example, she needs financial help or she needs us to visit her friends for her, and we all try our best to meet her requirements in this respect. After my mother-in-law died, in order to be filial to my father-in-law, my husband and I strongly supported my father-in-law to find another wife, so that we could have a good old age and relieve our worries, as long as they were happy, regardless of our personal feelings. Some people may think that you are selfish, not selfless. As long as we are kind to the elderly, don't think about what the outside world thinks of us. Our image is filial piety, the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation.
Moderator: It is easy for a person to succeed. Your family is very successful. How did you do that?
Wen Yang: All three of us advocate lifelong learning. We can be said to be a learning family. We all have the habit of reading books, cherish time and have a strong positive outlook on life. The three of us inspire and influence each other. We are proud of the success of family members and strive for the pride of becoming family members. As parents, we want to influence our children with our studious behavior, and the children are working hard now.
Moderator: How old is your son?
Wen Yang: My 22-year-old son worked as an intern in an international bank in Hongkong in the summer. He was still working overtime when he called at 1 1 yesterday. He is also a diligent and dedicated child. My secretary asked me, don't you feel bad? I feel very gratified, because young people are hard-working and a little tired, which is a kind of exercise for him and an opportunity for him to grow his talents. Hard work has become a habit. On the other hand, he is willing to take our expectations as the driving force and make his parents proud with his own achievements. He often calls from England to tell me what prizes he has won and what progress he has made. We all heard the good news. He knows that we have such good expectations of him, and he feels that this is also a kind of motivation.
Moderator: It seems that Excellence is also a habit and will affect each other. As the president of a university of ten thousand people, leading your team is definitely different from simply educating your children. We heard that you are very busy at work, but you have also studied five MBA and e MBA programs all over the country in recent years. What is this for?
Wen Yang: These classes are all over the weekend, and the time is just right. I study in Fudan, Tsinghua and Peking University, whether I go to Shanghai or Beijing. Generally, I take the train on Friday night, attend classes there on Saturday and Sunday, take the overnight train back to Jinan on Sunday night, and go to work on time the next day. This is also a sense of responsibility. When I educate my children, I can teach myself some preschool education theories. I also collected forty or fifty books on preschool education theory and taught myself. You can give up something from that year and start over. For example, I gave up several times in my career from graduating from college to becoming the chairman of a private college with 20,000 people. Giving up for the first time is giving up the superior living conditions abroad. When I came back, my friend asked me, how did you come back? Later, I went to Zhuhai, DC, with a monthly salary of 5000 from 65438 to 0992.
Compere: That's a lot of money.
Wen Yang: But I gave up Zhuhai again. When I want to come back, my friends in Zhuhai will ask, why go back? When I come back, I want to build a school. I think in my hometown, Shandong, a populous province and a big education province, I can display it and have a platform.
I went to my hometown to run a school, and later resigned and went to Shandong Polytechnic University as an English teacher. This is the third time I have given up.
Moderator: It takes courage, especially after the age of 30, people don't have that momentum, especially women. After marriage, they enjoy this life and teach each other. What gives you so much courage?
Wen Yang: This is an educational dream. I feel that I have learned some educational theories from abroad, especially when I run an elite college. When I see a failed student, I have a need to learn. I hope I can do more things and do more things through my own efforts. If I am an English teacher in state-owned university, I only have two half-day classes a week, and the time is very easy.
Compere: It's a very relaxed life. It's hard to get out of that state of life.
Wen Yang: At that time, there were also some losses and security losses.
Moderator: The fixed salary is gone, and the iron rice bowl is gone.
Wen Yang: The loss of medical insurance is also a loss. I still feel that I have not regretted my original choice. Because I chose it, I gave it up voluntarily, not because I was forced. I gave up a lot before. I have taught children's English and learned children's English teaching methods from abroad. I became the first member of the International Association of Children's English Teachers in China, and compiled the textbook Wen Yang Children's English. So far, hundreds of thousands of children have used this textbook. My teaching method is called Holographic Teaching Method for Children's English, and it is also listed in the top ten schools of contemporary foreign language teaching methods in China. I am a leading figure. But in this case, in fact, I will follow children's English and get good grades. The fourth time I gave up, I gave up my personal interest, because now I have the opportunity to study for 20 thousand students and the source of food and clothing for thousands of faculty and staff, so I dare not give up easily. Giving up in those days was a personal act, chasing dreams, and now we can only move on.
You asked me just now, and I thought about the journey I have traveled for so many years. Why do I study so many MBAs? I want to adapt myself to this new situation and lead this team, not let this organization suffer setbacks because of my ignorance or my own shortcomings. So we should constantly update our knowledge and keep pace with the times. Our school motto is also eight characters, constantly striving for self-improvement and advancing with the times. This is also my motto, and it is also the motto of educating students and employees in our school.
Moderator: I heard that in order to help more students complete their studies, you insisted on carrying out the Dean's Warm Heart Project and took out your funds to help outstanding poor students complete their studies. Over the years, the college has helped more than 1000 poor students. The college also participated in the "Spring Bud Plan", which benefited female college students for the first time in the country and fulfilled the college dreams of dozens of poor girls. What is the basis of this idea?
Wen Yang: These students, who come to us, are destined to meet us. The responsibility and obligation of us people is to make them become useful talents to society. It is our glory, our responsibility and our pride that they become talents. However, some students are unfortunate, some parents are dead, some fathers are terminally ill, and their families are miserable. One of the students is Qi Shanpeng, whose parents died. He wrote to me that he wanted to commit suicide. He did well in the exam, but he had no money to go to school. He felt that life was hopeless. After receiving his letter, look at the child. It looks like a malnourished child. At first glance, he is a cute child without fat under his skin. I sympathize with his experience and hope to help him finish his studies. Because we have such an opportunity, students like this are exempt from his tuition. There are also cases where there are several children at home and the family burden is heavy. I remember once at school, a father was black and thin. When he got to my office, he knelt down and said, please help my daughter. That daughter has two big eyes, just like the girl who hopes to project. Now I sometimes see her big eyes on campus. Things like this are all around us. As long as we can do it, we are trying our best to do it. According to different situations, some students with excellent academic performance, scholarships, excellent academic performance and poor families may receive grants. For some students, they are provided with some opportunities for work and study. For example, the "Spring Bud Plan" mentioned just now is aimed at girls. It used to be the beneficiary of the "Spring Bud Plan" for girls, but the "Spring Bud Plan" did not benefit college students because it was aimed at girls. What should I do when I go to college? I wonder if these girls can use a fund called "Spring Bud Plan" to help the beneficiaries of these girls who used to be "Spring Bud Plan" enter the university. At that time, dozens of people came to our college, and some found good jobs after graduation. Also got the love ambassador of Jinan "Spring Bud Project".
As an educator, as long as it is for the good of students, these students can become talents. We are particularly pleased to see that they have obtained their diplomas with the seal of our college and found their ideal jobs. Because this industry is different from other industries, whether it is a shopping mall or a manufacturing factory, its products can't bring emotional feelings. I don't think my sense of accomplishment comes from our hundreds of acres of land and how many houses are cold. Is to cultivate the external environment and facilities provided by these students. Personally, I am proud of the full yard on campus, thousands of energetic and smiling children, and those students.
Moderator: They will have a better future.
Wen Yang: Seeing them walking on campus, I think these students are all because of us, our team, and we have changed their fate through our own efforts. I feel that this work is really sacred and proud. Without us, these thousands of children may never have a chance to enter the university again. In this sense, it is quite a sense of accomplishment. Sometimes when we go to the society, we will meet some of our graduates. Sometimes I go to a self-study class, and when there is any activity outside, they suddenly call me. I feel strange. How do they know me? They said I was an elite college.
