[Reporter talks with the director of the Family Planning Steering Committee of Hong Kong Education Group]

"Parents should take the initiative to educate their children about sex."

Li Mingying, the publisher of "Where am I from?" and director of the education group of the Hong Kong Family Planning Association, said that the book is one of the series of German and German children's sex education.

Li Mingying accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from the Morning Post, and talked about parents' worries about the "scale" of this book and their confusion about sex education for young children.

Reporter: Where am I from? How old is it designed for people? Some parents think some pictures are a little too big. what do you think?

Li: When children are 3-4 years old, they will take the initiative to ask their parents, "Where am I from?" . This book is mainly designed for children aged 3-6, but generally children will not master the contents until they are 5-6 years old. Pictures are used to make children understand better. Regarding large-scale content, we suggest that parents let their children learn in stages.

Reporter: Some parents worry that after seeing these pictures, their children will casually say these embarrassing words in their daily conversations.

Li: This requires knowledge transfer and attitude education at the same time. Our parents should educate their children about the importance of privacy while educating them about sex. Tell the children that we only talk about this problem at home, because it is private. If we talk about this problem outside, it is disrespectful and should be avoided.

Reporter: Some parents worry that their children will imitate these pictures. Any suggestions?

Li: Children imitate because they are curious. Parents can tell their children the origin of life when they are having sex education. Sexual intercourse is a private act of two adults who love each other. Children should not imitate, or there will be babies. Parents should treat their children's curiosity with a normal heart.

Reporter: How should parents educate their children about sex?

Li: Parents should take the initiative to educate their children about sex. They can use online resources to watch some Flash about sex education with their children, and they can also read sex education books with their children. Parents must be normal about their children's sexual problems, and never scold them, so as not to cause psychological pressure on them.

Reporter: How do parents and schools in Hong Kong carry out this education?

Li: In Hong Kong, we will advise parents to make use of some resources of our counseling sessions and online animations to read books with their children and have sex education. We suggest that parents often communicate with their children on sexual topics by telling stories. In kindergarten, children will learn "my body" and know themselves; When I got to primary school, I began to take common sense classes and learn more about physiology. After entering the middle school, the education in this field will be reduced, and the school will be free to decide the time of education, which is usually about one hour a year.
