Huaide Kindergarten, located at the foot of Sunshine Rock in Gulangyu Island, is the predecessor of sunshine kindergarten. The earliest kindergartens in China can be traced back to 100 years ago.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, when Wei, a pastor of the Presbyterian Church in England, went to Gulangyu to preach, he founded a family-style kindergarten "Compassion Class" in the pastor's building at No.35 Gu Xin Road in Gulangyu on February 1898, and changed it to a kindergarten in the same year, which was later called Huaide Kindergarten. As it was founded earlier, it is the first preschool education institution in China according to the research of relevant literature and history experts, so it has the reputation of "the first garden in China".
