Deng Xinzi is a famous microbiologist, a professor at Huazhong Agricultural University, a doctoral supervisor and an academician of China Academy of Sciences. 1982 graduated from Huazhong agricultural university, majoring in microbiology, and 1987 received his doctorate in molecular microbiology from the university of east Anglia, England. He is currently the Dean of School of Pharmacy, Wuhan University. He used to be the dean of the School of Life Science and Technology of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the director of the Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolic Engineering of the Ministry of Education, and the invited editor or editorial board of many domestic and foreign publications such as Science Bulletin. His wife is Zhou Xiufen, a professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University, a national Jie Qing and a deputy to the National People's Congress.

Research direction: mainly engaged in biochemical and molecular biology research of actinomycetes genetics and antibiotic biosynthesis. Its research fields involve high-tech research of microbial drugs, molecular biology of Streptomyces plasmids and phages, DNA replication regulation, restriction and modification systems, microbial metabolic pathways, metabolic engineering and biochemistry of secondary metabolites, cloning and localization of antibiotic gene clusters, gene structure, function, expression and regulation, genetic engineering of unnatural antibiotic drug innovation, etc. Open up a new field of DNA sulfur modification.
