Shennongjia Scenic Area was founded in 1983, located at the junction of Badong, Xingshan and Fangxian counties in Hubei Province. Shennongjia National Nature Reserve, founded in 1983, is located at the junction of Badong, Xingshan and Fangxian counties in Hubei Province.

Shennongjia was named after Shennongjia tasted a hundred herbs, saved the people from diseases and educated the people. It now governs 6 towns and 2 townships (including 1 ethnic townships), with a total of 8 township-level administrative regions. Shennongjia was originally the sea of Wang Yang in ancient times, which was gradually upgraded to a multi-level platform by Yanshan and Himalayan movements, and was established as an independent administrative region in modern times.

Shennongjia Forest Area was officially listed in the World Natural Heritage List on July 65438+6, 2006, which is the 50th World Heritage in People's Republic of China (PRC) and the 4th World Heritage in Hubei Province. It is also the first protected area, geological relic and heritage site in People's Republic of China (PRC) (China) jointly recorded by UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve Network, World Geopark Network and World Heritage System.

1970, the State Council approved the establishment of a county-level administrative region named after the forest region, directly under the leadership of the Hubei Provincial People's Government. 1In July, 1980, the people's government of Hubei Province organized scientific and technical personnel to make a comprehensive inspection of Shennongjia, fully affirming the necessity of establishing a nature reserve in Shennongjia. 1982, Hubei Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of Shennongjia National Nature Reserve. 1In July 1986, the State Council approved Shennongjia National Nature Reserve as a national forest and wildlife nature reserve.
