Guilin has long been the cultural and educational center of Guangxi. Among the more important universities, there are Guilin University of Electronic Technology, which is called Tsinghua in the southwest of China, and Guangxi Normal University. There are three provincial key middle schools and demonstration key middle schools in the urban area: the middle school affiliated to Guangxi Normal University, Guilin Middle School and Guilin No.18 Middle School.
