State Education Commission of the People's Republic of China? People's Republic of China (PRC)) was the former department in charge of national education in the State Council. Founded in June 1985, formerly known as the Ministry of Education.

1998 March 10, the State Council's new institutional reform plan was renamed the Ministry of Education by the State Education Commission at the First Session of the Ninth National People's Congress. It is an organizational department of the State Council Municipal Government, led by the State Council.

The main responsibilities of the State Education Commission are:

(a) to study and formulate the national education development strategy and the principles, policies, regulations and important rules and regulations of education work and supervise their implementation, and to study educational theories.

(two) to study and formulate educational development plans, formulate the focus, scale, speed and steps of educational development, and guide and coordinate the implementation of educational plans and plans.

(3) To comprehensively manage the national basic education, general higher education, vocational and technical education and adult education, guide and coordinate the educational work of various regions and departments, and be responsible for educational supervision and evaluation.

(4) To participate in the study and formulation of the reform plan of the national economic system and the scientific and technological system, make overall plans, coordinate and guide the reform of the education system and the school-running system according to its basic spirit and requirements, straighten out the internal and external relations of education, and establish a socialist education system and operating mechanism with China characteristics that is compatible with the socialist market economic system, political system and scientific and technological system.

(five) in accordance with the principle of "two growth" of education funds determined by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, monitor the implementation of "two growth" in various places; In conjunction with relevant ministries and commissions, formulate guidelines, policies and regulations for raising education funds, education appropriations and education infrastructure investment, and manage foreign education aid and education loans in China under centralized management.

(six) in conjunction with the relevant departments to formulate relevant policies and regulations on labor wages and personnel management in the education system, to guide the reform of the internal management system of the school, and to make overall plans and guide the construction of teachers and educational administrative cadres at all levels.

(seven) to guide the ideological and political work, moral education, sports health and aesthetic education and national defense education in schools at all levels.

(eight) centralized management of national academic education and examination work, planning and guiding the continuing education after university, adult self-study examination work, eliminate illiteracy among young people.
