Hulunbeier College is the only undergraduate college in Hulunbeier. Previously, four junior colleges were established in1970s and1980s. 1992 four colleges merged, and then four secondary specialized schools merged. In 2003, the Ministry of Education approved Hulunbeier College to be upgraded to an undergraduate college.

In terms of social services and cultural heritage, the school gives full play to the advantages of disciplines, talents and science and technology, actively integrates into Hulunbeier regional economic construction, and actively participates in and serves regional economic and social development in basic education, teacher training, scientific and technological services, cultural construction and decision-making consultation. The school actively cooperates and negotiates with the flag city of Hulunbeier, promotes the cooperation between schools and localities, and provides talents and intellectual support for the economic and social development of Hulunbeier.

In 20 15, the school signed the cooperation agreement of "comprehensive investigation and research of Mengyuan and Yuanling" with the project office entrusted by the National Major Social Science Fund, to create a distinctive cultural brand around the history and culture of the northern nationalities, and to play an active role in serving the society and promoting the regional cultural inheritance, innovation and integration.
