1, one-handed pruning
When the eggplant is forked, the strong branches are kept and the branches are thinned every time, so that only one fruiting branch is kept in the whole growth period of the eggplant plant; Or knock off all the side branches below the eggplant and keep only the main stem as the fruiting branch. Single stem pruning should be carried out on the basis of retaining 2-3 leaves after the first side branch bears fruit.
Single stem pruning is suitable for plots with high planting density, early maturity and high yield in the early stage, but it is easy to cause premature senescence of eggplant in the later stage because of the large labor input.
2. Double-knife pruning
When eggplant begins to branch, choose two branches to grow at the same time. After each branch, one branch is reserved and the other branch is thinned, so that eggplant always keeps two fruiting branches throughout the growth period.
Double stem pruning is more suitable for planting eggplant in greenhouse, which can make nutrients more concentrated and produce better fruit, but it is easy to cause eggplant to grow white.
3. Three-pole pruning
When the eggplant blooms the first flower, two lateral branches directly below the flower are reserved, and all other lateral branches and lateral buds are excluded, so that the eggplant forms three fruiting branch plants with the main branch and two lateral branches growing at the same time. Three-stem pruning is suitable for varieties with high planting density, low plant type, medium fruit size, slender leaves and early maturity, which can make plants bear more fruits.
Precautions for pruning:
1. Thin lateral branches, lateral buds, leaves, etc. of eggplant after pruning. Should be taken to the shed for centralized treatment in time;
2. When pruning, according to the number of fruits, some yellow, rotten and weak leaves in the lower part of plants can be properly removed, which can well reduce the occurrence of problems such as falling flowers, diseased fruits and poor coloring;
3. Eggplant leaves should be picked after pruning. The number of leaves to be picked should be flexibly determined according to varieties, growth, weather, fertility and other factors. The plots with high fertility, abundant rainfall and strong branching ability can pick more leaves, and the varieties with poor fertility, drought and weak branching ability should pick less leaves.
4. When pruning, you can't break branches directly by hand. You should trim them with sterilized sharp pruning shears to prevent excessive tearing or bacterial infection.
