In the summer of the sixth year of the Republic of China (19 17), he graduated from the county zhengxue high school. In autumn, Rou Shi was admitted to Taizhou Provincial No.6 Middle School and dropped out of school to study for himself.
In the summer of the 7th year of the Republic of China (19 18), Rou Shi was admitted to the first normal school in Zhejiang province.
In the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), Rou Shi married Wu Suying, a native of Xixiang Dongxi.
In the tenth year of the Republic of China (192 1), Rou Shi joined the "Chen Guang Literature Society" composed of famous new literature writers Ye Shengtao, Zhu Ziqing, Pan Mohua and Feng Xuefeng, and began to engage in the new literature movement.
In the summer of the 12th year of the Republic of China (1923), Rou Shi graduated from Zhejiang No.1 Normal School and applied to Hangzhou as a tutor. Being far from his ambition of "saving the country through education", he quit teaching and returned to his hometown in less than half a year.
In the spring of 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), he went to teach in Dipu Primary School in Cixi, and insisted on literary creation after teaching.
On New Year's Day in the 14th year of the Republic of China (1925), he published his first collection of short stories, Madman, at his own expense in Ningbo. In February, Rou Shi went north with a thirst for knowledge and went to Peking University as an auditor.
In the spring of the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), Rou Shi left Beijing and went south to make a living between Shanghai and Hangzhou.
In the spring of the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927), he taught in Zhenhai Middle School, and soon served as the academic director of the school. In September, Rou Shi was invited by Wu (the educational director of the middle school department) as a Chinese teacher to teach music and English in primary schools. During his teaching, Rou Shi also took part in some revolutionary activities led by the Party.
At the end of January in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928), the government of Ninghai county of Kuomintang appointed Rou Shi as the director of education. In spring, the newly-built building was blown down by the typhoon, and high schools and primary schools in Zheng Xue are still in class, and they continue to raise funds to rebuild new school buildings. On May 26th, an uprising broke out beside the museum. At the end of the month, the uprising failed and Ninghai Middle School was dissolved. In early June, Rou Shi went to Shanghai to make a living.
In the late autumn of the seventeenth year of the Republic of China (1928), with the help of Lu Xun, Rou Shi and Cui Zhen organized a "flower club" aimed at introducing Eastern European and Nordic literature, introducing foreign prints and advocating vigorous and simple literature and art.
In the early 19th year of the Republic of China (1930), the Freedom Movement League was established, with Rou Shi as one of its founders. In March, the Chinese Left-wing Writers' Union was established, with Rou Shi as executive member and editorial director. In May of the same year, he participated in the National Soviet Regional Congress as a representative of the Left League.
In the 20th year of the Republic of China (193 1), on January 17th, when he attended a meeting to discuss Wang Ming's route in Shanghai Oriental Hotel, he was betrayed by traitors and arrested by the Kuomintang gendarmerie. On February 17, 23 comrades including Yin Fu and Ouyang Lian were secretly killed by Kuomintang reactionaries.
