The Australian Academic Qualifications Framework (AQF) is a unique national learning pathway system in Australia.

AQF involves 12 different academic qualifications, connecting universities, vocational education and training, and primary and secondary education. The AQF system makes it easy for overseas students to upgrade to a higher level and transfer to other schools on the premise of meeting the student visa requirements. "RPL" refers to the corresponding knowledge and skills acquired by overseas students through their previous study, training, work and life experiences, which can be converted into qualification credits. Even if international students only partially meet the requirements of an AQF academic qualification, they can get corresponding academic credits. International students can choose Australian institutions to meet their own enrollment according to the relevant information obtained.

AQF encourages you to continue your studies, explore new career development prospects, adapt to a new lifestyle and make greater achievements. The academic qualifications shown in the above figure are divided according to the types of institutions that usually grant different academic qualifications; However, the flexibility of the qualification framework system enables different institutions to offer courses other than standard courses; For example, middle schools all over Australia can also provide some vocational education and training courses (VET education in middle schools) to help you obtain high school graduation certificates and I-IV certificates; Older students can also study high school diploma courses in vocational education and training institutions, and universities and vocational education and training institutions can award junior college diplomas and advanced junior college diplomas; Universities and other institutions of higher education can also issue I-IV certificates. Vocational education and training institutions usually cooperate with universities to provide postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diploma courses. Most of the courses selected by international students who come to Australia with student visas are included in the AQF system.

Some courses offered to overseas students are registered by the government, but are not included in the AQF system. Most of these courses are to help students meet the entrance requirements for further study or prepare for the final AQF qualification certificate. These courses are usually called pre-university or preparatory courses. In addition, there are various English training courses that can help overseas students improve their English level, meet the language requirements for further study or prepare for the internationally recognized English proficiency test.

Overseas students can attend all levels of primary and secondary schools in Australia, but only the high school diploma in the post-compulsory education stage is included in the AQF system. Some designated middle schools can provide students with preparation courses such as "International High School Diploma". The AQF degree obtained through study is widely recognized all over the world, and different academic certificates are usually suitable for different industries.

Some schools also issue I-IV certificates or grant students corresponding credits, so that they can be exempted from taking some courses when they continue to study related majors in the future. Senior high school courses and vocational education courses in middle schools can help foreign students enter universities, vocational education and training institutions or enter the labor market. There are many ways of teaching and evaluation, including classroom teaching, various forms of written evaluation, formal examination and other evaluations. The assessment content includes students' skills, understanding ability, usual performance, participation in project research, group discussion and field activities.
