Universities directly under the central government, referred to as universities directly under the central government of People's Republic of China (PRC) for short, refer to some universities directly managed by the central ministries and commissions of People's Republic of China (PRC), aiming at exploring reforms in advance and playing an exemplary role in improving teaching, scientific research and serving the society.

Colleges and universities directly under the central ministries and commissions are managed by subordinate ministries and commissions, and their finances are also allocated by subordinate ministries and commissions.

After the adjustment of the national university management system, universities with strong strength and distinctive academic characteristics are placed under the management of the Ministry of Education. At present, there are 75 universities directly under the Ministry of Education.
