Confucius' ancestor was Shang Tang, an aristocrat in Yi Li (now Xiayi County, Henan Province) in Song Dynasty and the founding monarch of Shang Dynasty. After the rebellion of the three kingdoms in the early Zhou Dynasty, in order to appease the nobles and future generations of the Shang Dynasty, the Duke of Zhou appointed his younger brother Wei to establish the Song Kingdom in Shangqiu and worship Yin Shang as emperor.
