What are the national core journals and provincial core journals?
The provincial core periodicals refer to the periodicals that can be distributed across provinces and regions in China and sponsored by all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and their subordinate ministries, commissions, departments, bureaus and colleges. Strictly speaking, there is no national or provincial distinction standard for periodicals and magazines. Because the General Administration of Press and Publication has long stated that publications in China are only formal and informal, and there is no distinction between national and provincial levels. No matter whether the organizer or the competent unit is a province or an autonomous region, as long as it can be publicly distributed throughout the country, it can be called a provincial periodical.

Generally speaking, "national" periodicals refer to periodicals sponsored by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, xxx and their subordinate departments, or by China Academy of Sciences, China Academy of Social Sciences, democratic parties and national people's organizations, and by national professional societies. In addition, publications clearly marked with the words "national journals" and "core journals" can also be regarded as national journals.

There are three authoritative editions in China to identify the core periodicals published in China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). First, the Citation Report of China Sci-tech Journals (hereinafter referred to as the Citation Report) published once a year by China Institute of Sci-tech Information; The other is the Compendium of China Core Journals (hereinafter referred to as Compendium) jointly edited and published by Peking University Library and Peking University Library Journal Work Research Association. Summary of Main Contents is published irregularly, the second edition is published in 1996, and the 2000 edition is published in 2000. The 2004 edition was published in 2004, and the latest edition is 20 14. The third is the Compendium of China Core Journals, which was jointly edited and published by the Institute of Social Sciences of Nanjing University, and also reached the 2004 edition. Compendium of Chinese Core Journals and Compendium of China Journals include social science, natural science and other disciplines. Among them, the identification of core journals is comprehensively evaluated through five indicators. The selection principle of statistical source journals in Citation Report and the identification of core journals in Summary of Contents are based on different methods, so the core journals defined by them (referring to science and technology) are not completely consistent.
