On June 28th, 2005, WAO jointly launched a global initiative to fight allergic diseases with allergy institutions in many countries, and designated July 8th every year as World Allergy Day. The purpose is to prevent allergic reactions and allergic asthma by raising the awareness of allergic diseases among the whole people.

Brief introduction of diseases Allergic diseases, also known as allergic diseases, are caused by patients' high sensitivity, which produces specific immunoglobulin E antibodies (IgE) allergic to a special allergen in blood. This patient has a genetic predisposition. IgE allergy can lead to the following typical allergic diseases: asthma, rhinitis, allergic eczema, conjunctivitis, food allergy, drug allergy and anaphylactic shock. Among them, the most common are allergic rhinitis and allergic asthma caused by allergic factors such as pollen, dust mites, fungi and pets.

An epidemiological survey of allergic diseases in 30 countries by the World Allergy Organization shows that 22% of the total population in these countries suffer from allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, conjunctivitis, eczema, food allergy and drug allergy. About 40 million to 50 million people in the United States have allergic problems, of which 39.5 million suffer from seasonal allergic rhinitis. According to the estimate of the World Health Organization, there are 654.38+0.5 billion asthma patients in the world, and the trend is increasing year by year. Among them, 50% of adults and at least 80% of children are caused by allergic factors such as pollen. If seasonal allergic inflammation is not treated, 25%-38% will develop into asthma and eventually become perennial asthma, emphysema and pulmonary heart disease. The World Health Organization also estimates that more than 6.5438+0.8 million people die of asthma every year, and about 250,000 people died of asthma in 2005.

The global expenses related to allergic rhinitis, including drugs, counseling and working holidays, cost more than $20 billion every year. The global expenditure on antiallergic drugs alone is estimated to exceed $8 billion.

Advocacy goals The goals of World Allergic Disease Day are: to raise people's awareness of allergic diseases (allergic diseases);

Educate doctors, patients and the public;

This paper mainly introduces the epidemiological investigation results of allergic diseases in 30 countries by World Allergy Organization. Of the total population of 654.38+200 million in these countries, 22% (250 million people) suffer from different kinds of allergic diseases.
