Xi Youshi University, referred to as "Xi Shi University", is located in Xi, the ancient capital of the world famous historical city. It is the only multi-disciplinary general institution of higher learning in northwest China featuring petroleum and petrochemical industry.

The school was founded in 195 1 Northwest Institute of Petroleum Technology. 1958, upgraded to Xi 'an Petroleum Institute. In 2003, the school was renamed Xi Youshi University.
