The earliest embryonic form of education
When it comes to the origin of China's ancient education, most people will think of Confucius, because the Confucianism he founded was accepted by the rulers of the past dynasties and carried forward as an orthodox thought, which has continued to this day in pre-Qin hundred schools of thought. So we will habitually think that China's education originated from Confucius.

Confucius

However, to everyone's disappointment, ancient education in China did not originate from Confucius. As early as the Wuding period of Shang Dynasty, the earliest embryonic form of education in China was formed.

According to legend, Wu Ding, King of Shang Dynasty, was a servant at the behest of his father when he was a teenager, interacting with the common people and getting close to the lower classes. During this time, he met a large number of talented people. When he ascended the throne, he wanted to revive the Shang Dynasty, but there was no effective minister to assist him. So Wu Ding kept silent for three years, leaving all political affairs to Ozawa to decide, while observing the national atmosphere himself.

It was still a slave society at that time. Even if you are a Shang king, Wu Ding can't run the country with a slave at will. So he thought of a way to say that he met a saint in his dream and said that he could help him govern the country. This sage is the later famous slave prime minister-Fu Shuo.

In this way, Wu Ding used the excuse of seeing the emperor in his dream to recommend himself a good minister, which improved Fu Shuo's position and pushed him to the important position of prime minister. In that superstitious era, slave owners and nobles dared not go against "God's will" even if they were dissatisfied with the monarch's decision.

After taking office, Fu Shuo lived up to expectations and educated the people at home. He made many rules to regulate people's behavior. In addition, it also crusaded against the northern minority-ghost face, opened up territory, and Yin Shang reached its peak.

When Fu Shuo was old, Wu Ding ordered him to choose aristocratic children and teach them how to govern the country, so as not to waste Fu Shuo's talents. This is the earliest origin of ancient education in China.

After his death, he was buried at the foot of Mazhu Spring in Zhongtiaoshan, Pinglu County, and everyone in the Fu family recognized him as an ancestor. In today's Chai Zhuanggou Village, Guanxiang, Pinglu County, Shanxi Province, there is also Fu Jiazhong.
