History of Taihu Middle School in Anhui Province
According to the records of the old county annals, the West Lake Academy was originally built in Erli, northwest of the county seat, and was founded by Wu Yifeng, a magistrate of a county, on 1755 (twenty years of Qianlong). In the east, there are Huiwentang, Lizetang, Jingxian Temple, Tongchun Pavilion, Jingguan Pavilion, Wenchang Pavilion and Heji (commonly known as the Temple of Fire, now converted into a welfare home). 1790 (55 years of Qianlong), Yu Xinchang, a magistrate of a county, led a gentleman to rebuild Fantie Lane in the city (that is, in the south gate of the old city). There is a hall to the east of the door, and there are two bookshelves on the left and right. The front is opposite the door and the wing hall. To the east is a box-shaped house connected to the experimental shed. Its circumference 103 feet, surrounded by a wall. /kloc-in the winter of 0/854 (four years of Xianfeng), it was destroyed by war. 186 1 year (the eleventh year of Xianfeng), the magistrate of Anqing Prefecture ordered all counties to hold health worker examinations as usual. At that time, the academy and the experimental shed were destroyed, so the magistrate of a county had to cover the experimental shed with thatch and barely completed the experiment. Soon, it was rebuilt, the original site was widened, followed by the college and the experimental shed. There are two halls around the Academy, with the Sichuan Hall and Huiwen Hall in the middle, the wing room on the side and the numbering room on the left and right. Behind the east, there is an art garden in front of the Dragon Gate, and Gong Yu Temple in the west. 1870 (the ninth year of Tongzhi), the first thing the academy did was to build a house in the former site of Fantie Lane Mansion, with a hall, wings and a building. There are two warehouses around the hall for storing books, surrounded by walls. 1894 (20th year of Guangxu), the magistrate Xiao Renbing was in the same county and rebuilt in the west of the experimental shed, with the gate facing south.

1898 (in the 24th year of Guangxu reign), the Qing emperor issued an imperial edict, changing the provincial college into a school combining Chinese and western styles, with the provincial college as an institution of higher learning, the county college as a middle school and the state college as a primary school.

At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Jia Shijun, the magistrate of Taihu Lake, changed the West Lake Academy, which trained talents for the imperial examination system, into Taihu County Middle School in 1906 (the thirty-second year of Guangxu).

19 12 (the first year of the Republic of China), the county Council agreed to change the county middle school into the county first senior high school. Liu Yi United Middle School, the full name of which is "Anqing Liu Yi United Middle School", was founded in 1905 (thirty-one year of Guangxu), and its school address is Baihua Pavilion in Anqing. The so-called "Liu Yi" refers to the six counties of Huaining, Tongcheng, Buried Hill, Taihu Lake, Susong and Wangjiang, all of which belonged to Anqing House at that time. The original school was named "Anqing Middle School Attached". After the establishment of the Republic of China, the official system was abolished, and it was a prestigious school with the word "Liu Yi". The school was established by the government from the beginning, and all school administration was ordered by the county magistrate. After the Republic of China, the management right belongs to Liu Yi Public Welfare Bureau. The board of directors reappointed the principal to be in charge of school affairs. Under the principal, there is a school director, a supervisor and a supervisor; Later, it was changed into three departments: educational administration, discipline and affairs, each with a director. Later, in order to combine discipline with discipline, a post-level appointment system was adopted, and soon a life guidance Committee and a discipline Committee were established. The academic system was originally four years and five years, and later it was set as three years in junior high school and three years in senior high school. 1938 (in the 27th year of the Republic of China), the Japanese invaders approached Anqing, and the junior and senior high schools in Lian Liuyi were evacuated to Huangjiapu, Tongcheng (because of the tight war, they could not insist on running schools), and the middle school moved to Taihu Lake. Fan Xiebang was the first vice president and director of education.

After the teachers and students moved to Taihu Lake, Chengbei Gospel Hall and Nie and Wang Ancestral Hall were originally used as school buildings. At the beginning of April, four classes of students resumed classes, with (Hua) as the director of junior high school and Tan Naihan in charge of educational affairs and general affairs. In June, the Japanese army attacked the city and plundered the land. The plane bombed Taihu County, and the Gospel Hall was destroyed. Some students formed an exile team and evacuated to Dabie Mountain. In July, under the planning of Taihu-born directors Yang Huicun and Zhao, the school board decided to borrow the Wang Ancestral Hall to study righteousness and resume classes. At this time, due to frequent wars and impassable traffic, the junior middle school of Liuyi Middle School, which moved to Taihu Lake, actually had no connection with the senior middle school moved to Tongcheng and became an independent school in Taihu Lake. The school board decided that Zhao was the principal and the teaching director. In the autumn of that year, three junior high schools enrolled 150 students.

/kloc-in the spring of 0/939, the school site was moved from Xue Yihe to Jiangjialing, about 8 miles away from the county seat. The name of the school used to be Anqing Qiyi Lilian Middle School, and it still uses Liu Yi's original name. Jiang Jialing's house was originally the private residence of Mr. Li Yougan, with more than 30 rooms, including hall, study, bedroom, guest room, warehouse, kitchen and other large and small houses. Mr. Li generously promised to rent the house to a school to show his support for education and the war of resistance. But Li's house can only accommodate about 100 people. In order to solve the shortage of school buildings, President Zhao negotiated local financial allocation with people from all walks of life in Taihu County and submitted it to the Provincial Department of Education for allocation. In order to solve the urgent need, he personally led teachers and students to the county seat to carry the broken bricks of the Gospel Hall and Jinxi Primary School bombed by the Japanese invaders to meet the needs of building houses. He also donated all the money received for the funeral of his dead mother to the school for the establishment of the school, which was rewarded by the provincial government. With the help of President Zhao, more than 80 buildings and bungalows have been built, which can accommodate 12 class and more than 600 students. 1940, in order to develop local education to meet the needs of resisting Japan and saving the nation, Liu No.1 Middle School set up a simple normal department in Xinjiachong to train rural primary school teachers needed in wartime, with Gan Zhaoqing and Xin Zheming as directors of the normal department successively. Xin Zheming said in the preface to Classmates' Record published in the first and second issues of Simple Normal College: "Since the 29th year of the Republic of China, the fourth year of China's unprecedented War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, Taihu County has attached Simple Normal College to the alliance of six counties and cities in order to develop education to meet the needs of the Anti-Japanese War and the founding of the People's Republic of China. The initiator is Gan Qing, who left his post, and the place is strong and wise. " In the autumn of the same year, Liu Yi resumed high school enrollment, enrolling 2 classes, 100 students. 194 1 In the autumn of, middle school set up a branch school by the river at the foot of the mountain, and served as the teaching director of the branch school. This teacher has trained 120 junior high school graduates. At that time, resisting Japan and defending the enemy, saving the country and trying to survive were the top priorities of the people of the whole country. The school set up the "Youth Anti-Enemy Association", organized teachers and students to go to county towns and rural areas to carry out anti-Japanese and national salvation propaganda activities, and secretly reprinted Mao Zedong's "On Protracted War" for teachers and students to learn. In order to stimulate the fighting spirit of resisting Japan and saving the nation, teachers and students learn to sing March of the Volunteers, March of Bright Sword, Memorial Song of May and other anti-Japanese war songs. The school also hired Sun Jue, the leader of the 34th Working Group of the Fifth Theater, and Li Wentao, a member of the 34th Working Group, to teach at the school. Shortly after the outbreak of the Pacific War, the eldest son of Mr. Zhao, who was then the secretary of General Wei, commander of the first war zone of the Kuomintang, returned to China to visit relatives (his wife and daughter were middle school teachers), and the school took this opportunity to invite him to give a current affairs report entitled "On the Pacific War". In his report, he not only analyzed the world situation at that time, but also expounded Mao Zedong's thought of "protracted war", refuted the theory of national subjugation and surrender spread by the Kuomintang Rightists and the theory of quick victory spread by some radicals, which greatly inspired the teachers and students of the whole school to fight against Japan. Under the influence of * * * members and patriotic youth actively participating in anti-Japanese and national salvation activities, the anti-Japanese atmosphere in the school is very active, and the patriotic enthusiasm of teachers and students is increasing day by day. Many students joined the anti-Japanese team. General Cai Biewen, former political commissar of a group army of the People's Liberation Army and defense minister of the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army, was one of the students who joined the army that year.

Because the Kuomintang government has always pursued the wrong policy of passive anti-Japanese and active anti-Communist, the patriotic actions of a group of progressive youths such as Sun Jue and Li Wentao were monitored by the Kuomintang die-hards. At the critical moment when they were about to be persecuted, President Zhao, regardless of his personal safety, resolutely covered their safe transfer. Liuyi Middle School is famous for its good school spirit. At that time, the conditions for running a school were very simple and the material life was extremely difficult, but the school was full of vitality everywhere. There is a piece of land in the campus, which is the former site of Li Guild Hall. Later, it was transformed into a vegetable garden. There are many pines, bamboos, plums and tallow in the garden, but there are a little more bamboos. In the past, whenever bamboo shoots just came out, they were cut off. President Zhao deeply regrets this. He wrote a poem: "Spring grass grows and business is booming. Germination is cherished, and it will be towering in a few days. " He specially made a wooden sign, copied the poem on it and hung it next to bamboo; He also wrote "On Garden Bamboo", explaining that caring for bamboo and wood is the same as cultivating talents. President Zhao used local materials and skillfully set an example in education, which achieved good results. Since then, people who cut bamboo shoots have quietly disappeared, and the longer the bamboo grows, the more lush it becomes. The headmaster managed the school well, the teachers taught rigorously and the students worked hard, so the teaching quality could be improved steadily under the condition of very tight and scarce material resources at that time. Zhao, a senior three student, won the first place in the national composition competition for senior high school students. In Taihu County, which was closed at that time, a common people's child made such achievements, just like winning the first prize in feudal times, which caused great repercussions in society. The excellent school spirit of Liuyi Middle School is also manifested in the special care for students. /kloc-in the winter of 0/942, Sun Wei, a senior three student, died of illness. Nie Jiaxing, a classmate, wrote an article in the school wall newspaper to express his condolences, criticizing the school for not making timely diagnosis and treatment. This poster has just been seen by the inspector of the education department who came to visit the school, which is to criticize the school instructor. Wang Tieru, a military training instructor, thought that it was deviant and against school rules for students to write articles in public on the wall newspaper, threatened to punish the author and tore up the wall newspaper in public. This rude and unreasonable behavior aroused the anger of senior three students, immediately announced a strike, flocked to the teacher's dormitory, destroyed Wang's dormitory, and burned his clothes and quilts. Seeing this, Wang Tieru almost went crazy and immediately asked the Taihu Public Security Team to deploy military and police officers. For a time, the campus was full of sentries, armed police were eyeing up, and white terror enveloped the whole campus. Several students led by them escaped from the back hill. Wang Tieru still refused to give up. Relying on the strength of the security team, he forced Chen Wolu, the academic director in charge of school affairs at that time, to hold an interim school affairs meeting and forcibly announced the expulsion of six people, including Nie Jiaxing, Zhao Bi, Mei, Liu Xianlin, Chu and He Mo. This trend was later called "Six Gentlemen Incident". At the time of the incident, President Zhao was attending a meeting in other places and learned about it on his way back to school. After calmly analyzing the cause of the incident, considering that Wang Tieru, who was supported by the public security team, could not be offended, nor could six aspiring young people lose the opportunity to study in vain, he publicly agreed to expel six students, but locked the expulsion list in a drawer and did not report it to the education department. He also kept the student status of six students and secretly indicated that six students borrowed it from other schools. On August 1945, Japan announced its unconditional surrender. So far, after eight years of bloody fighting, the people of China paid a high price for the sacrifice of 35 million compatriots and won the final victory in War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. The people of the whole country are ecstatic, and teachers and students Liu Yi are ecstatic! On June 10, thousands of workers, peasants, soldiers, businessmen and soldiers from all walks of life in Taihu held a lantern festival to celebrate the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. The drama programs rehearsed by teachers and students in Lian Liuyi Middle School and the colored lights they draw are particularly eye-catching. In addition to traditional folk programs such as walking on stilts, running dry boats, riding donkeys, swinging, lion dancing, dragon lanterns, fishermen casting nets, and ten gongs and drums, there are various vivid lights such as Crossing the Sea with Eight Immortals, Eight Hammers in Zhuxian Town, Awakening the Lion, and Prosperous Mountains and Rivers, which carry forward the national spirit and praise the anti-Japanese people. Some colorful lanterns satirizing corrupt officials also appeared in the lantern-lifting parade, such as "pulling the goose" and "reaching into the coffin-death", and the audience applauded. 1In the spring of 946, the teachers and students of Liuyi Middle School moved back to Anqing with the joy of celebrating the victory of the Anti-Japanese War after sharing weal and woe with the people of Taihu Lake for eight years. Some Taihu teachers and two junior middle school students merged into Taihu County and stayed in Taihu Lake. There are 54 high school classes with more than 5400 students. There are more than 70 faculty members/kloc-0, including 2 special-grade teachers, 6 senior teachers/kloc-0, and 4 provincial "teaching stars".
