Jinan University is a comprehensive university jointly established by Shandong Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education. It is also a key construction university in Shandong Province, jointly established by the National Engineering Practice Education Center, and the first batch of application-oriented famous universities with Shandong characteristics.

Jinan University, formerly known as Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry, was founded in 1948. From June 5438 to October 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shandong Institute of Building Materials Industry and Jinan United University merged to form Jinan University. In April of 20001year, the former Jinan Civil Affairs School of the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the former Shandong Materials School merged into Jinan University.
