Tsinghua University (Tsinghua for short) was born in 19 1 1. It is named after Tsinghua Campus in the northwest suburb of Beijing, and is based on the part of boxer indemnity returned by the United States. Formerly known as Tsinghua School, it was a preparatory school for studying in the United States founded by the Qing government, and was renamed Tsinghua School the following year. In order to try to cultivate talents locally, 1925 established the undergraduate department, and 1928 changed its name to "National Tsinghua University". 1937 after the outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the school moved south to Changsha, and jointly established the National Changsha Temporary University with Peking University and Nankai University. 1938 moved to Kunming and changed its name to National Southwest United University; 1946, moved back to the original site of Tsinghua campus to resume school. Tsinghua University, a university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), was ranked as "21Project" and "985 Project", and was selected as "Everest Plan", "201Plan" and "1Plan". It is a member of C9 Alliance, Association of East Asian Research Universities, Pacific Rim University Alliance and Tsinghua-Cambridge-MIT Low-carbon Energy University Alliance, and has set up a deputy ministerial level.

Tsinghua University is one of the most famous universities in China and even in Asia.
