What is the reason for IELTS to cancel the June exam?
On May 26th, 2020, the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education issued the Notice on Adjusting the Overseas Examination in June 2020. In view of the fact that the universities where overseas test centers are located are not yet open to the outside world and do not have the conditions for group examinations in the near future, after research and consultation with relevant overseas test organizers, it is decided to make the following adjustments to the overseas exams in June: all the GMAT, TOEFL and IELTS exams will be cancelled in June.

In the notice issued on May 26th, the TOEFL Online Examination Registration Network of the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education mentioned that, in view of the fact that the universities where the TOEFL test sites are located have not been opened to the public, after consultation with the TOEFL organizer ETS, it was decided to cancel all TOEFL tests in June 2020 nationwide from now on, and the examination fees will be fully refunded to the candidates' personal registration accounts. On the same day, the GMAT test, IELTS test and GRE test in June 2020 were also cancelled.

Extended data

First, IELTS test mode

1, pen-and-paper mode

Candidates who choose the paper-and-pencil mode will take the listening, reading and writing tests through the paper-and-pencil mode and take the oral test through the "talk with everyone" form. The paper-and-pencil model is suitable for IELTS academic and training courses, and for IELTS academic and training courses for British visas and immigrants.

2. Computer test mode

Candidates who choose the computer-based test mode will take the three-part test of listening, reading and writing through the computer-based test mode, and take the oral test in the form of "everyone talks". The computer test mode is suitable for IELTS academic and training courses, and IELTS academic classes for British visas and immigrants.

The computerized examination mode is completely consistent with the traditional paper-and-pencil mode in terms of examination fee, examination content, grading standard, difficulty level, examination type and examination safety setting. At present, the test date of computer test mode is arranged more than once a week, and the deadline for registration is 7 days before the test date. Candidates can check their scores within 5-7 days after the test, and the oral test is generally arranged on the day of the computer test or as close as possible to the date of the computer test.

Second, the IELTS scoring standard

IELTS scoring criteria include: language fluency and coherence, vocabulary changes, sentence richness and grammatical accuracy. Examiners who pronounce IELTS score according to these four criteria, which are equally important.

The recruitment and training of IELTS writing and speaking examiners are conducted in accordance with established standards, so as to ensure that raters understand the IELTS scoring policy and effectively grade listening and reading papers according to the scoring standards. Each test center will carry out system monitoring, and a certain proportion of answer sheets will be double-marked. In addition to continuously monitoring the performance of examiners, examiners will be evaluated every other year to ensure that they are graded according to the standards.

All test scores are recorded on the report card, including a total score and four individual scores of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Candidates' test scores are evaluated by the scoring system of 1-9, with four independent scores. The total score is the average of the scores of the four parts, rounded off. The total score is allowed to be half, and the individual score is allowed to be four.
