Jincheng, a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Shanxi Province, was called Jianxing, Zezhou and Zezhou in ancient times. Located in the southeast of Shanxi Province, the whole territory lives in Jincheng Basin, surrounded by mountains, and the middle part is relatively flat. The Danhe River and the Qinhe River run vertically through the city, so they were named after moving their capital to Gong Jing at the end of the Spring and Autumn Period. With a total area of 9490 square kilometers, it is the gateway to the southeast of Shanxi Province. Since ancient times, it has been a battleground for military strategists and is known as "the gateway of Sanjin and the first in Taihang Mountain".

Jincheng has a long history. Twenty thousand years ago, it left Du Gao, Tashui River, Xia Chuan and other human sites. It is a thousand-year-old city with a county in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, a state in the Northern Wei Dynasty and a government in the Qing Dynasty. It is the birthplace of myths such as Goddess of Mending the Sky, One Mountain in Gong Yu, Shimen in the Imperial Chishui and Yu Qiu in Shang Tang, and has produced celebrities such as Liu Xizuo, Zhang, Wang Guoguang and so on.
At present, there are 66 national key cultural relics protection units, including Ye Temple, qinglian temple, Kaihua Temple, Cheng Hao Academy, Liu's former residence, Yu Xiang Castle, Tianguan, Huangcheng Xiangfu, Changping Battle Site, Yangtoushan Grottoes, China's famous mountain Xicheng Mountain, Mountain Ridge, Taihang Mountain and many other places of interest and natural heritage.
Jincheng is the hometown of ancient coal and iron, known as "nine heads and eighteen craftsmen". It was the producing area of "Gu Jian and Yang A" in the Warring States Period, where Zezhou iron ware and blue charcoal were once well-known in China. Manghe, Lishan and other protected areas are home to rare animals such as macaques and giant salamanders, which are known as the "treasure house of biological resources" in Shanxi.
Jincheng is a base of high-grade casting, electric power and animal husbandry in Shanxi Province. Erguang, Jinhou (Yeung Yi), Qin Ling, Huancheng Expressway and 207 national highway are interwoven into a network, and Taijiao, Jian 'an and Houyue railways run through the whole territory, and it has many honors such as national forest city and national garden city.
In 2022, Jincheng achieved a regional GDP of 230.5 billion yuan, an increase of 7.3% over 202 1.
