I have a lot of feelings about the differences between American primary education and China. For example, in the last article, I mentioned that most of the homework of first-grade children in the United States is done by hands and brains, not by rote; American children in the first grade can read and write, and their composition topics are unconstrained. In fact, my biggest feeling during this period is that American primary education and even preschool education attach great importance to reading, and I believe that mothers in North America will feel the same way. Here, reading doesn't start from a doll, but from the age of zero! The cultivation of this reading habit is as deep-rooted in the United States as we in China believe that "learning mathematics and physics well is not afraid to travel around the world". From school to family to society, countless subtle reading opportunities and environments have been created for children. I often feel that a child who likes reading and regards books as his life is really like a duck to water here!
The importance and cultivation of reading must start from the school: teachers do a "survey" when children start school, and then divide them into different reading groups according to different levels. After class starts at 9: 00 every morning, the children in Grade One and Grade Three will be upset. According to different reading groups, go to different teachers' classes for about an hour to study and read English, and choose books that suit your level. For example, in the first hour of every morning, Guoguo doesn't have class with the teacher in the classroom, but takes school supplies to the next class and then comes back at 10. There are parents every day during this period.
