The Theory of Educational Independence was published by Cai Yuanpei in New Education magazine on 1922. It was published before the May 4th Movement, aiming at solving the educational expenses.

The theory of educational independence refers to the educational viewpoint that education is in an independent position beyond the struggle between political parties and sects.

Cai Yuanpei himself believes that: the funds are independent, and the government is required to set aside fixed income for education funds, and other projects may not be misappropriated; Administrative independence requires people who know how to educate, and cannot be changed because of the political situation; Think independently without following certain beliefs or concepts; Independent content, free editing, free publishing and free use of teaching materials.
