How should college students cultivate legal literacy?
First, the current situation and analysis of contemporary college students' legal consciousness. (A) the level of legal knowledge of college students is not high. Legal knowledge is an important content of legal consciousness and an important basis for measuring the level of legal consciousness. Professor Dong Yu of the Graduate School of China University of Political Science and Law [2] shows through his investigation report on legal awareness: "People's legal awareness level is directly proportional to their education level." Although Chinese college students have learned some legal knowledge, their overall legal knowledge level is low. At present, most college students in China attach importance to specialized courses, but not to basic legal courses. They just make a surprise attack when they come to the exam. Most students pay attention to credits and ignore the actual effect. Under the domination of this idea, it is impossible for college students to have a solid basic knowledge of law. On the other hand, the teaching hours of basic legal courses in colleges and universities are limited, with 32 hours for undergraduates and 28 hours for junior college students. It is impossible to complete the content equivalent to "Introduction to Law" in such a short time. Therefore, the legal knowledge gained by college students in this limited class time is also limited. (2) College students' legal concept is biased and weak. Legal viewpoints and legal concepts are the components of legal consciousness and the basis for measuring the level of legal consciousness. They are closely related to the legal knowledge level. At present, college students' legal knowledge is low and weak, which is easy to produce wrong views and weak legal concepts. Some college students are skeptical and distrustful of the implementation of the law. China Youth Research (1999,2) [3] has such a set of survey data, which is aimed at junior students in a university. 35. 1% students are confident that "if you are involved in the lawsuit, you are the justice of the law", while 58. 1% students are not confident, with 6.6%. Is everyone equal before the law? 79.7% of people answered "inequality" in the first place, 12.8% answered "inequality" in the second place, and 9.5% thought it was "equality". On the other hand, college students lack the concept of rights, and when their legitimate rights and interests are violated, they cannot actively use legal weapons to safeguard their legitimate rights and interests. Instead, they treat the law with a negative attitude, even give up legal weapons and take revenge to get back "justice", which may lead to crimes. (3) The phenomenon of illegal crimes in colleges and universities is increasing day by day. Today, the problem of college students' crime has been on the rise. According to a survey conducted by Kang Shuhua, the president of Peking University China Crime Research Association and a law professor, in 1965, college students' crimes accounted for 1% of the total social criminal crimes, which accounted for 2.5% during the Cultural Revolution, and accounted for 65,438 in recent years. We know that in 20021October 29th and February 23rd, Liu Haiyang, a student from Tsinghua University, spilled drinks mixed with caustic soda and sulfuric acid on bears in the zoo twice, causing many bears to be injured. After being detained, Liu Haiyang said that he had learned basic legal knowledge. Understand civil law, criminal law, etc. I don't know that it is illegal and criminal to hurt a bear. Now I know, and I regret it. Therefore, Liu Haiyang didn't turn legal knowledge into legal consciousness to guide his behavior, so he didn't know whether his behavior was correct. In view of the above analysis, we know that the current level of college students' legal awareness is still very low. Most college students who commit crimes are poor in legal knowledge and weak in legal concept. They don't know how to protect their legitimate rights and interests with legal weapons. Soviet educator Suhomlinski once said: "The purpose of education is to achieve the realm of self-education." Therefore, it is very important for colleges and universities to attach great importance to the legal awareness education of college students. Second, colleges and universities should take concrete measures to educate college students on legal awareness. Soviet educator Suhomlinski also said: "When colleges and universities send an ignorant (criminal) person to society, they add a dangerous person to society." [5] We know that this year's "2.23" mega-murder case, the suspect is Ma Jiajue, a graduate of Yunnan University majoring in biotechnology in Kunming, Yunnan Province, and is about to enter the society. This incident caused a strong response from the society. The university has trained a "senior" criminal for the country for four years, which will seriously threaten the social security environment. Therefore, colleges and universities have an unshirkable responsibility to strengthen college students' legal awareness education and comprehensive management. To deal with social security and environmental problems, it is impossible to cure the problem simply by treating the head and foot. Therefore, from the root, colleges and universities attach great importance to the education of college students' legal awareness, and it is concrete to publicize various related laws. I think the following aspects should be emphasized in the legal awareness education for college students: (1) Colleges and universities should attach importance to the teaching reform of the course "Legal Basis". The teaching reform of "Legal Basis" course is the main way to educate and cultivate students' legal awareness in colleges and universities, which is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1, changing the view that "Legal Basis" course is only ideological education and legal knowledge education, and its purpose is to improve college students' legal awareness education. The course "Fundamentals of Law" was opened in colleges and universities in September, 1986, which is a public compulsory course for college students. The Ministry of Education also lists it as one of the three main courses of moral education. Based on this fact, many people think that the course "Fundamentals of Law" has "duality" [6], that is, it is a course of ideological and political education and legal knowledge education. The purpose of "Legal Basis" course is to enable students to "master the important weapon of law by learning legal knowledge and improve the level of ideological, political and moral education." [7] 2. Teaching reform centered on legal awareness education should be implemented in the course of "Legal Basis" in colleges and universities. Because this can overcome the contradiction of "less class hours and more content", this reform will make the course content concise, even if some necessary specific provisions are mentioned, it will only be used as materials to cultivate students' legal awareness without spending too much time, which will not only help teachers to speak thoroughly in class, but also provide the possibility for using other teaching methods and means, thus improving the quality of classroom teaching, enriching the teaching content and enhancing the persuasiveness and attractiveness of teaching. 3. Teachers of "Legal Basis" course should establish correct teaching concepts. In teaching, teachers should establish three teaching concepts. First, establish the concept of "students are in the dominant position and teachers play the leading role", so that students can change from passive acceptance to active learning; The second is to make teachers realize that the fundamental purpose of teaching is to let students develop the habit of independent thinking, not just to impart legal knowledge, but to cultivate college students' legal awareness; Third, in the teaching process, "teaching" and "educating people" are closely combined and complement each other, avoiding the separation of teaching and educating people. 4. Teachers should adopt "case teaching method" in teaching methods. Landel, Dean of Harvard Law School, once said: "One of the fastest and best ways to effectively master legal principles is to learn those cases that contain these principles." Case teaching means that teachers choose vivid and representative judicial cases as examples, and through students' own case analysis and teachers' guidance, students can master the principles and basic systems of law. This teaching method has broken the original single spoon-feeding teaching method of pure theoretical knowledge, and changed the original teaching with teachers as the authority into an equal dialogue between teachers and students, with the full participation of students. In teaching, teachers should implement the principle of integrating theory with practice, organize teaching with cases, case solutions and bills, organize students to analyze and discuss cases, and give full play to students' enthusiasm and initiative in learning, so as to master legal knowledge and enable college students to form a correct legal consciousness. In addition, colleges and universities should carry out special lectures and reports on legal knowledge education at different levels and levels as much as possible. In this process, students can increase their legal knowledge, improve their legal viewpoints and legal concepts, thus improving the legal awareness of college students and forming an atmosphere of learning, abiding by the law and using in the university campus.
