1985, the Jilin Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government cancelled the Provincial Education Department and the Provincial Higher Education Bureau and decided to establish the Jilin Provincial Education Commission. In 2000, the People's Government of Jilin Province made a decision to rename the former Jilin Provincial Education Commission as the Jilin Provincial Education Department, which was in charge of education and language work in the province. The CPC Jilin Provincial College Working Committee and the Provincial Department of Education are co-located.
