Importance of mother tongue
Because of my work, I need to get in touch with many children in junior high schools in international schools. In the past two years, a very puzzling phenomenon has happened to me, that is, more and more parents are proud that their children can't speak Chinese but are fluent in English, and so are their children. They feel that they have received international education and must speak English.

I remember two years ago, I came into contact with a junior high school student in America. I showed her a very simple official WeChat account article, which introduced the life story of the founder of an online teaching platform. She dragged me to finish 10 minutes of Chinese reading comprehension with her. She really doesn't understand some words, but these words are very simple to me, which shows that some China children studying in junior high schools abroad actually neglect their Chinese learning.

In the past two years, the children I have contacted who are studying in international schools in China have actually shown such a trend, which I did not expect. This leads to poor Chinese. Although English is fluent, deep thinking is impossible. There are also those children who are good at Chinese and not bad at English, but of course they will not neglect Chinese learning. On the contrary, they are more mature, diverse and profound in thought and behavior. So in fact, I would like to remind parents that although we live in an international environment, although English is still the universal language, and although you may really envy foreign things in your hearts, it has nothing to do with me. You have made a fortune, and without your successful people to advise you on how to educate your children, of course you are unwilling and disdainful. Some parents really complain that our children are used to speaking English because they are asked to speak Chinese. I'm afraid that if you speak Chinese, he won't understand or say what he really thinks, but often such children can't express themselves well in English and Chinese and don't know what they are thinking. But I share a word with my experience according to the number of children I have contacted: learning the mother tongue well will benefit children all their lives.

I am a translator, and the bottleneck of translation is the level of mother tongue. As long as I have time to learn ancient Chinese now, because I think I was really ignorant when I was a child, so I can't learn ancient Chinese for so much time. I'm not saying that I must become an expert in ancient Chinese prose, but there is such a cultural form in my blood that I don't understand and am not good at it, so I just lack the "power" to think. If I can't borrow it when I need it, I will feel very weak. And I really hope that children can at least speak modern Chinese well, even if they don't learn ancient Chinese. Otherwise the world will change in the future, and now you are willing to break one of your natural wings. It can only be said that the parents of such children are too short-sighted.
