How do Hong Kong people educate their children?
This summer, Zheng Xuezhen Primary School affiliated to Tsinghua University was lucky enough to attend training in Hong Kong. Because it is the first time to come to Hong Kong, she often goes sightseeing with other students after studying and feels the customs of the Pearl of the Orient. I like to sit in the car and silently observe the passengers' every move, and see the manners, manners and educational concepts of Hong Kong people from some small details. That day I got on a double-decker bus, and the first floor was full of people, so I went to the second row seat on the second floor. Sitting in the front row of seats in front of me is a mother in her thirties and two children. It seems that my brother is over three years old and my sister is about six years old. The mother and the child sit on the left and right seats respectively. The mother sits on the left and the two children sit side by side on the right. As soon as I sat down, my mother whispered, "You sit carefully. My sister will take care of my brother." The brother and sister sat quietly, but the restless brother began to walk around and spit the leftover sugar on the floor of the carriage. When mother saw it, she didn't reprimand it immediately, but said softly, "Look how clean and comfortable this car is. If you spit sugar here, you will attract ants. Do you want the next uncle sitting here to be bitten by ants? " The younger brothers and sisters shook their heads together, and the mother went on to say, "Don't take it with your hands, wrap it in paper towels, then give it to your mother and get off and throw it away." My sister helped my brother wrap candy for my mother. At the main station, we got off together. Mother took two children to the trash can, and sister threw the paper towel in. Looking at their distant backs, I seem to understand why Hong Kong has such a high level of civilization, which is closely related to its civic quality. This mother treats her children's mistakes by persuasion and education, and it is a very effective education, such as caring for the young, respecting others, public health, and especially instilling kindness and compassion. During my stay in Hong Kong, all the children I met were very polite. Anyone who asks passers-by for directions will get patient and detailed instructions. The teacher never discriminates against any students in class, and always encourages and appreciates "give it a try!" Teachers pay special attention to classroom norms, that is, the rules that should be observed in class, especially learning to listen to others, respect others and cooperate with others. During class, most of the time is to complete posters, pictures and so on in group activities. Different from the "spoon-feeding teaching" and "manipulation teaching" that we are used to, the students cultivated in this way have good quality and interpersonal skills, which are far from being reflected by scores. Shouldn't we reflect on the lack of education now? I am an ordinary primary school English teacher. How should I teach my children a foreign language? We have always overemphasized the difficulties we face and many objective obstacles that cannot be changed, such as the college entrance examination, the baton of unified examination, the lack of language environment, the uncooperative parents, the limited teaching time and so on. These factors exist objectively and are determined by China's national conditions. In fact, what we should think about is how to teach children well in such an educational environment. I am also the mother of a boy, and I know that teachers and school education play a vital role in children. We should try to change the existing educational concept little by little, aiming at cultivating children's healthy personality and comprehensive English application ability, and aiming at higher teaching goals. In fact, examination and quality education are unified, examination is a test method, and quality education is a process. If the quality is improved, you will not be afraid of poor grades. During the training period, when a typhoon hit Hong Kong, schools were closed, public transportation was suspended, many shops were closed, typhoon warning signals were everywhere, and TV stations reported typhoon information all the time. On that day, our training was also suspended, and we also thought that the weather was not too bad. In Chinese mainland, students will go to school as usual, but in fact, our training can go on as usual. The next day, the news reported that about two thousand trees were blown down, but there were no casualties. This is inseparable from the fact that the Hong Kong government puts the safety of citizens in the first place. The public emergency mechanism in Hong Kong is very perfect, which is very important for children's safety education from childhood.
