There are two aspects to improve learning skills, one is to learn specific knowledge, and the other is to improve general skills such as learning methods, habits, attention, self-control and self-care ability.
Let me share some concrete methods with you, taking my student Lele as an example.
Target determination
As the psychologist Anders Eriksson wrote in his "Deliberate Practice", "The most effective form of practice is purposeful practice, and purposeful practice must first define specific goals".
For example, in order to enlarge Lele's vocabulary in class, I help him learn 8 English words every day.
Lele learns 8 new words every day.
We all agree that the daily learning goal is to review what we have learned first, and then learn what we have learned. These contents include-
A. Read the words and texts learned in the previous three days continuously and accurately twice;
B words that can be translated into English and randomly selected in English translation;
C. Answer relevant English questions with me to achieve fluency;
D. after learning new content, you also need to meet the same requirements.
With this goal, although Lele has no English foundation, it has persisted for two months and its English progress is still obvious.
Lele is doing her usual exercises.
The results are not bad
In daily study, life and study, I also help Lele to make various specific goals and study plans. With these goals and plans, he knows the direction of his efforts, which is much more efficient than aimless practice.
Stay motivated.
To tell the truth, it is not easy for such a young child to keep practicing. But we can find ways to improve the "motivation" of children's learning.
Psychological research shows that the most attractive task can meet three basic psychological needs of human beings: sense of competence (feeling that you can master a certain skill and succeed), autonomy (feeling that you can control it) and interpersonal relationship (feeling connected with others).
Think about the video game that people can't stop, and its settings meet these three needs at the same time. We can also learn from these three rules and try to make learning more attractive to children.
First of all, give children as much feedback as possible.
When choosing learning materials in our school, such as English picture books, we should choose content with appropriate length to ensure that children can learn it through one study, so that they can get positive feedback every time, instead of learning it three or five times or even a week.
These are three texts that Lele learned in one night, all of which are very short. For children with zero foundation, shorter materials can be fed back in time.
In the process of learning, we should tell our children in time what they have done well, what are their shortcomings and how to improve them.
For praise, psychologists suggest that the frequency should not be too high, and that you should not simply "you are great!" If the child completes the task easily, it is certain that he has mastered this part. If the task completed by the child is very challenging for him, we must affirm his efforts.
Secondly, in the process of learning, we should pay attention to giving children a certain degree of autonomy, rather than adults stuffing ducks unilaterally.
For example, children can choose to study math or English first. If they make mistakes in spelling, don't tell them in a hurry. Instead, ask him how he worked it out and guide him step by step to find his mistakes and correct them.
Third, the companionship of parents and the affirmation of teachers are also powerful driving forces for children to persist in learning.
Judith Harris wrote in her "The Myth of Education": "The career, political or religious choices children make at home in childhood have an impact on their lives. 」
It is a very good choice for us to talk about our dreams with our children when they are young, and to link our immediate goals with our long-term goals.
This is because expectations can create results. When people expect something to happen, they often subconsciously take some behavior and use the characteristics of that group to restrain themselves, which has become the driving force to help children stick to it.
Lele has a dream that he wants to travel when he grows up. At this time, as Lele's teacher, I will talk to him about the wonderful world outside and the importance of speaking English to him. They are all curious, self-disciplined and persistent people.
Gradually, Lele tried to move closer to one direction in practical action. For example, he doesn't particularly like learning English, but now he doesn't reject it, because he knows that learning English well is a bridge for world language communication.
learning method
Many times, we find that one student learns faster and grasps more firmly than another. In fact, it is not because of the great differences in students' intelligence, but because the methods used by students who learn quickly are more effective.
Efficient learning is a very effective strategy.
For example, I use five teaching methods of modern education in Hong Kong to help Lele learn and master English. This is a tested English education method suitable for children in China.
1.CLIL, a teaching method integrating content and language.
2. Task-based teaching method PBLT/TBLT
3. Mother tongue realistic teaching method
4. Story teaching method
5. Total body response teaching method
For example, when studying toe for human organs in Lele School recently, he found that the pronunciation of this word was very similar to that of Chinese, so he imagined that the color of his toenails was transparent. When previewing thumb, the pronunciation of the word reminded him of mulberry. He imagined that he climbed the ladder to pick mulberries, and as a result, mulberries dyed his thumb black.
In this way, he can remember the pronunciation and meaning of words faster, his memory is stronger, and he is more efficient when learning words and reading picture books. Of course, this method can only be an aid, and the most important thing is to learn more and practice more.
Improve hearing
Our modern education teachers in Hong Kong pay special attention to improving children's listening, teaching them how to listen, and asking them to repeat their homework to their parents every day. I will tell my parents about their daily homework in the WeChat group, so that parents can compare it.
At home, parents should pay special attention to cultivating Lele's ability in this respect, including telling him a paragraph and asking him what he means.
knot
It's been a year since school started, and Lele has done well in her class. He listens carefully, takes the initiative and is a very self-motivated child. Although Lele is zero-based, with the guidance of teachers, the participation of social activities and the accompanying study of parents, Lele has made great progress, which has also achieved the success of rapid three-dimensional integrated teaching in modern education, helping children learn English through school, society, family and technology.
Learning is really a marathon. As a teacher of modern education, I will continue to work hard to help him gradually establish a positive academic self-concept. In the future, we want to help more students learn English successfully. Welcome to join us. This is an English enlightenment experience class, which can be experienced by your children. There is only one golden period for children to learn English. I hope parents don't miss it. Claim: /system/t 10.html
