On August 6th, Pastor Ma Zi of American Reformed Church arrived in Xiamen by sailboat. He began his missionary career in Xiamen for more than forty years.
After Ma Zi came to Xiamen, because of the lush bamboo forests, she rented a private house as a preaching place at a place called Zhushujiao on the shore of Shaoshui Port (now Kaihe Road). He goes to church every Sunday morning and afternoon. 1July, 850, the missionary office was rebuilt and the private house was added. On February 23rd of the same year, 12, Zhushutang officially held a service and assembled on Sunday morning and afternoon. Five people were baptized that year (including Xinjie Church). On February 26th of the following year, the church established a primary school. From 65438 to 0855, the number of believers increased to 100. 1may 856 13 held the first Presbyterian church meeting, and the Presbyterian church formulated eight rules and regulations, which were publicized for three weeks and were recognized by all believers. Due to the increase of believers, the church spent 1.859, 1.300 yuan built a formal church near Zhu Shujiao's private residence and held a dedication ceremony. The church was named "Zhushujiao Chapel" because of its location, and now it is simply called "Zhushujiao Church". On June 26th of the following year, Zhang Quan Presbyterian Church held its inaugural meeting in Zhushutang Church.
Pastor Damaz has been preaching in Zhushutang for nearly twenty years. His pastoral society is very successful, caring about the lives of believers and often giving help, so it is highly respected by believers. Ma Zi's family members are also enthusiastic about missionary work and participate in missionary, cultural and educational work in Xiamen. 1870, Mrs. Mary, the wife of Damazi, opened a girls' school in Zhushutang to recruit women. After that, the school moved to Gulangyu and became the famous Yude Girls' Middle School. His second daughter, Mary, founded the Xiamen Foot-binding Association, which contributed to the abolition of foot-binding in Xiamen.
Damazi attached importance to the autonomy of the church in China and actively promoted the autonomy movement. 1855 On April 8th, Zhushutang and Xinjietang jointly elected four elders and three deacons. 1On June 26th, 860, the Presiding Council of Zhushutang was established.1On June 26th, 862, Elder Ye was elected as the first Chinese pastor of Zhushutang and became the founder of the self-supporting and self-employed pastor of the Chinese Church.
Ye, the first Chinese priest in Zhushutang, was born on March 29th, 1832. When he was young, he was adopted by a timber merchant family in Xiamen. I heard the sermon on beating horses in my early years and was moved by the Holy Spirit. He was determined to turn to God, but his father opposed it. Later, the property of the Ye family was lost in the turmoil of the Knife Club. The desperate Ye family was taken in. They witnessed the great love of Christ from Ma Zi's behavior and were deeply moved, so the whole family turned to the Lord. From then on, Ye Zhang Han was determined to dedicate his life to the Lord. He entered a seminary and served in the church. Because of his solid truth foundation and familiarity with Xiamen customs, he became the first Chinese priest. After serving in Zhushutang for 65,438+08 years, Pastor Ye went to Xiaoxi and other places in Taiwan Province Province to preach and made contributions to the spread of the gospel in Fujian and Taiwan.
On 1883, Pastor Ye went to Xiaoxi, and Mr. Ye was appointed as the second pastor of Zhushu Church. The following year, Zhushutang established Baochi Hospital (later Xiamen Branch of National Salvation Hospital). 1On June 2nd, 909, Reverend Zheng Pengcheng passed away. Mr. Lin Wen was appointed as the third pastor of Zhushutang. 19 15, the church established a kindergarten and a Mongolian school. 1930, Mr. Wu Jingxing was appointed as the fourth pastor of Zhushu Church. 1934, Mr. Cai Zhicheng was appointed as the fifth pastor of Zhushu Church. He organized people's night schools and encouragement meetings to train young believers to read the Bible, sing hymns and learn culture. 1May, 938 10, Xiamen fell and Ludao was occupied by the Japanese. Many believers fled to Gulangyu or other places to take refuge, reducing the number of people attending worship. Mr. Yang Huaide was appointed as the sixth pastor of Zhushutang. 1940, Mr. Wang became the seventh pastor of Zhushutang after Mr. Yang. From 65438 to 0943, Mr. Lin Yi was appointed as the eighth pastor of Zhushu Church. 1September, 945, Japan surrendered and Xiamen recovered. Most believers returned to Xiamen, and the number of church worshippers increased greatly. The church hired Mr. Shen as the ninth pastor, and his wife, Ms. Shao Youwen, was responsible for the pastoral work of young people and Taoists. The following year, pastor Shen left his post and went to Longyan. Mr. Zheng Xijue was appointed as the tenth pastor of Zhushutang. At that time, there were 600 believers in the church.
49 years later, Zhushutang joined the "Three Ones". 195 1 year, Pastor Zhu Shutang participated in the preparatory committee for the "three-self" reform of the Christian War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in Xiamen and served as the main member of the first representative meeting of the "three-self". 1958 the hospital and school attached to this hall were taken over by the government. In the same year, Sanzi practiced "joint worship" and merged some small churches into the cathedral. Guan 'ai Neitang, Xi 'an Neitang and Kanda Neitang in Kaiyuan District of Xiamen were merged into Zhushu Neitang. In February of the following year, with the dedication of American friends and believers, the church was rebuilt, and the construction cost was 7000 yuan, and the second church was built. The existing building is the third church, which was rebuilt on 1935, with a building area of 275 1 m2 and a church area of 39 1.5 m2. According to experts, the architectural style of Zhushutang is close to Gothic. The structural treatment of the church is to compromise the advanced western structural materials and integrate them into the architectural style of southern Fujian: its roof structure does not use the pointed arch buttressing technology of the traditional western church, but uses wooden triangular cymbals.
Thanks to the Lord's leadership and blessing, the Ministry of Zhushutang has become more and more perfect and the church has become more and more prosperous. There are four priests, 24 elders, more than 4,000 registered believers and an internal publication, Vineyard.
