Confucius Award is the highest international award named after China people for the first time. It mainly rewards presidents, ministers and experts who have made outstanding contributions in the fields of education, culture and philosophy around the world. On September 26th, 2004, officials of China UNESCO Committee announced in Qufu, Confucius' hometown, that China had submitted an application for the Confucius Prize to UNESCO. This award was first applied by Jining City, and Qufu City also applied to UNESCO in 2005.
