Can Vipassana Meditation Change Thinking and Cognition?
A French philosopher correctly pointed out a long time ago that "people who know something but don't follow it don't fully understand it." In other words, if a person has a correct understanding of the truth, he will act according to it. So just knowing something is not enough to make people behave properly. Vipassana meditation teaches us to observe truthfully. Without wisdom in action, cognition is meaningless, so real cognition must include wisdom.

The main purpose of education should be to acquire knowledge about yourself, and then acquire knowledge about other things in the universe. In order to understand ourselves and bring inner peace and harmony, we must observe our inner and physical behaviors. The process of observation must be scientific, without any prejudice brought by the dogma in memory. Any behavior produced by thought is bound to have contradictions and conflicts, because thought itself is limited. Therefore, the behavior produced by thoughts is incorrect. Another and only tool is the feeling of not being combined with emotion. Feeling can be used as a tool to observe physical and mental behavior to understand yourself.

Feeling is produced by the contact between the senses and the corresponding objects. These contacts occur naturally. We know that as long as the body is alive, there is breathing; Where there are ideas, there are ideas. The rise of breathing in the body and the rise of thoughts in the heart can only be understood by feeling. Therefore, feelings and body and mind are inseparable, and people can understand themselves through feelings. There are three kinds of feelings-pleasure (pleasure), unhappiness (bitterness) and neutrality (pleasure without bitterness). If we don't understand the true nature of feelings: happiness produces greed, pain produces hatred, and unhappiness produces ignorance, then these feelings will produce greed and ignorance respectively. They are the source of human suffering.

Buddha is a pragmatic doctor. What he really cares about is how to eradicate the suffering of mankind in this life. He found the cause and prescribed a prescription to eradicate the cause of suffering. This is Vipassana meditation. If we just accept this theory and don't practice it, we can't cure our disease. Not only do we recite prescriptions, we must practice this kind of teaching and check whether the pain is relieved. Vipassana is the only way to end the pain in this life. Vipassana helps us to truly observe the nature of things. If we can see things as they really are, correct knowledge (sampajanna) or wisdom of action will begin to work. Without knowing impermanence all the time, Vipassana is incomplete or insufficient, so we can't deal with feelings, because feelings are different from thoughts, and it can't be accumulated. Just as feelings and life are inseparable, so is Vipassana and Righteousness. Feeling also plays an important role in the cycle of the law of origin. If you can't see the true colors of feelings, it will bring Tanha, and then it will bring Adana, and the vicious circle will begin. But when we know the true nature of feelings, the feelings we observe are just feelings. Feeling that kind of feeling is not my feeling or your feeling, not a man's feeling or a woman's feeling, but a feeling that rises because of contact. Happy feeling is bitter, because it will eventually disappear; The unpleasant feeling is also bitter, because it brings pain; The feeling of neutrality is also bitter because it causes stupidity. Therefore, feeling is bitter and impermanent, and it is the product of the origin law, so there is no self and no feeling for people.

If we understand the essence of feeling from this angle, it will not be the object of love or climbing; If we don't cling to our feelings, they will naturally disappear. Because the essence of all natural phenomena is to rise and then disappear; Once this cycle (samsara) is broken, we will never go forward on the road of suffering again. In other words, the bitter road is closed. We break the cycle and move towards consciousness. If we continue to strive to maintain this "no accumulation" cognitive action, we will experience another destination, which is the truth of all truth, all peace and harmony, and all destinations.

Vipassana is the simplest but also the most difficult meditation method. Its method is just to be aware and keep a bystander attitude, so it is very simple. But it is also the most difficult, because our hearts are always expecting some predetermined results. We must constantly strive to break this habitual reaction, and this effort is the process of introspection. Humans have tried various methods such as bhakti, yoga and karma to obtain inner peace, but instead of peace, the world is full of poverty, jealousy, war and destruction. The second half of this century witnessed the revival of Vipassana meditation after 2500 years. Vipassana is the only way for people to discover themselves. The complete inaction of Vipassana meditation can make people full of vitality. Correct cognitive feelings will lead to correct behavior, that is, behavior originating from love and mercy; This correct understanding will guide the way to stop the pain.
