Sinology refers to China's cultural heritage and academic records in past dynasties, including China's ancient history, philosophy, geography, politics, economy, calligraphy and painting, music, Yi ology, astrology, medicine and architecture. Sinology in a narrow sense refers to China's ancient theory.
Modern sinology belongs to a broad concept. Although it is closely related to Confucian classics, its value orientation is different and its meaning is broader, covering all kinds of traditional academics in Confucian classics and historiography. Generally speaking, Sinology is "the abbreviation of China's learning", as opposed to "Western learning". Some commentators also pointed out: "Modern Sinology is not a simple continuation of traditional learning, but a transitional form of China's academic transformation from tradition to modernity under the influence of modern western learning."
