2 the status quo of college English teaching
Due to the popularization of higher education in China and the uneven English level of students after the enrollment expansion in colleges and universities, there are problems such as students' different learning interests, which makes college English teaching face a severe test of how to adjust teaching to meet the actual level of students enrolled in colleges and universities. College English is facing the teaching reform of cultivating students' listening and speaking ability, and at the same time, it is necessary to consider the English ability of graduates in the real social job market, which makes college English teaching face new challenges.
3 college English teaching requirements
Students are the main body of learning, but there are individual differences, and their learning goals, motivations and interests are different. Especially today's college students, who are basically born after 90, grew up with the care of their parents and grandparents. Their world outlook and outlook on life are unique and distinct, and their values are realistic. Faced with the training burden of such a generation of college students, in teaching, we should teach at different levels according to the students' level and ability to accept foreign language information, be good at guiding and reforming the teaching mode to fully meet the requirements of students at different levels, so that students at different levels can develop and find a suitable learning environment. For students with weak foundation, in addition to detailed lectures and more practice in class, more humanistic encouragement, care and help are needed to improve students' self-confidence in learning.
Second, "2+1" training mode of college English teaching reform
"2+ 1" Mode in College English Teaching
"2+ 1" is the training mode of oral English talents, in which 2 refers to the two major steps/modes that students should complete oral practice every semester; 1 is the basic oral expression, such as: self-introduction (students must study in the first semester); Secondly, students need to spontaneously form a group to perform a collective performance (the content is self-selected and the teacher checks). In the second semester, they will be upgraded to a personal speech and a group simulation performance of some scenes in life. In the third semester, it was upgraded to personal latest news reports and group debates; In the fourth semester, with the increase of students' knowledge reserves, personal oral practice items were changed to live impromptu speeches and live collective performances, and upgraded to workplace recruitment simulation to exercise students' adaptability and reflective ability. The purpose is to enable students to master the basic spoken English skills and the basic professional English theory, skills and professionalism necessary in the subject field during the two-year basic English study in school, so as to link up with the future professional study and lay a solid foundation for students' employment. Namely: oral skills training auxiliary subject English basic knowledge+hierarchical teaching. After the implementation of the "2+ 1" model, students' study time is relatively increased, their practice opportunities are increased, their autonomous learning ability is enhanced, their participation interest is enhanced, and their autonomous learning quality is improved. Because what students need in their future jobs is the practical application ability of oral English, and in order to adapt to the new talent training mode and market demand, it is an inevitable trend of future education to carry out hierarchical teaching reform of college English basic courses.
2. Increase colorful classroom teaching content and extracurricular life.
In order to balance the differences of students' English level, in teaching, we should design teaching contents suitable for most students' learning activities and use different teaching means and skills. Because, if the level of students is similar, the operation of classroom activities will be simple and smooth. So as to achieve the best effect in the limited classroom teaching time and optimize classroom teaching. In addition to the content of lesson plans, teachers should also add different targeted links according to students of different levels. Through the implantation of independent performances, latest news reports, English poetry recitation, telling jokes, singing and group performances ten minutes before class, students' expression ability and interest in learning can be improved. In addition, English corner, morning reading, evening listening, English dialogue performance, English film week and other activities after class every morning also enhance students' interest and enrich their second English learning class.
Third, the implementation of hierarchical teaching of college English
Hierarchical teaching mode means that students at the same level are at the same level, and the teacher's task is to improve each student to varying degrees. Therefore, in addition to having a high level of foreign languages and necessary professional skills, teachers must constantly take the initiative to learn, update their knowledge and master new skills in order to meet the needs of social development and teaching reform as soon as possible. The reform of teaching mode is also the driving force to promote teachers to change their educational concepts and to actively and consciously practice the educational concepts and principles of teaching students in accordance with their aptitude and all-round training.
1 According to students' actual English level, students are divided into classes and stratified.
Under the premise of the English teaching reform goal of cultivating students' oral expression ability, the teaching mode of students taking professional subjects as the unit should be broken. Freshmen have to take written and oral exams when they enter school. According to the students' grades, it is divided into three levels: Class A, Class B and Class C for hierarchical teaching. Students in Class A are required to have a solid English language expression foundation, a wide range of knowledge, strong innovation ability and self-study ability, and be able to communicate freely in English in class. When they graduate, they should reach the A level of CET-4 oral test. Class B of intermediate class is required to master the necessary basic knowledge of spoken English, have the ability to communicate properly in English, be able to communicate in class, and reach the B level of CET-4 oral English test when graduation. Class C, that is, the elementary class, is the basic level, that is, it only needs to complete the contents of the prescribed teaching materials, and has certain oral communication skills, and can answer simple questions and make simple exchanges in basic English in class.
2. Teach students in accordance with their aptitude and arouse their enthusiasm.
In the stratified teaching operation, different teaching objectives are set according to different levels of the class, and different teaching methods are adopted to arouse students' enthusiasm for learning English, which is beneficial to students at all levels to learn and progress at their respective starting points, improve their interest and enthusiasm in learning and enhance their self-confidence. Teachers adopt different teaching strategies for students at different levels to cultivate students' English ability with solid foundation, large vocabulary, relatively good listening and speaking ability, daring to speak and blurting out, so as to adapt students' English communication level to the needs of social development and talent market. Therefore, we should change the previous teaching mode, while retaining the necessary teaching content, introduce cross-cultural communication content and related professional knowledge, and broaden the scope of knowledge, so that students can not only master the language points, but also understand the professional knowledge of foreign cultures and related disciplines accordingly, thus improving their interest in learning English and broadening their knowledge. At the same time, students are encouraged to study independently, think independently, think divergent and give full play to their subjective initiative. Aiming at the problems of students in junior and intermediate classes, such as small vocabulary, weak foundation, poor listening and speaking ability, lack of interest and confidence in learning English well and poor learning methods. Teachers should do necessary homework before class, understand students' English status, learning mentality and methods, keep timely communication with students, integrate emotions into teaching, and reduce students' fear of English. We should also make full use of multimedia to "lead in" learning content vividly and interestingly, attract students' attention, stimulate students' interest in learning, encourage students to dare to speak English in class and after class in time, and change from subconscious forced learning to active learning and participation in classroom activities. After one or two semesters of oral English practice, most students at all levels are afraid to speak English from the beginning and don't know how to speak English, but they are willing to speak English.
3. Improve the examination and assessment mechanism and establish a hierarchical rolling system.
We should change the form of examination based on written test before, and change it into an examination based on language expression ability. In view of the fact that the teaching reform focuses on cultivating the practical application ability of oral English, the assessment method should also be changed to the one based on oral English test. Among them, the usual grades account for 50%, and the final grades account for 50%. In addition to paying attention to attendance and classroom performance, the special discussion part of each unit and oral practice before class are also listed as important assessment contents.
The "rolling system" teaching is implemented every new semester, that is, the top and bottom students in each class are adjusted according to the comprehensive conditions of each student's usual classroom performance, learning attitude and final exam results, which can not only increase the students' sense of urgency, but also urge students in advanced classes not to be transferred to intermediate or junior classes because of backwardness, and also mobilize the enthusiasm of students in junior or intermediate classes for promotion.
In a word, the implementation of "2+ 1" training mode in English teaching is an inevitable trend of English teaching reform under the situation of national enrollment expansion, and it is also a necessary prerequisite and condition for teaching students in accordance with their aptitude, achieving good teaching results and ensuring teaching quality. At the same time, teachers can give full play to their guiding role. Graded teaching aims at quality education and students' development, and aims at cultivating students' application ability, so as to adapt to the law of foreign language learning, the development of foreign language teaching and the demand of talent market. We need to constantly explore in teaching, introduce new teaching concepts, implement different strategies, be good at thinking, always adhere to the concept of innovation and reform, and strive to make students apply what they have learned to meet the needs of the talent market and cultivate talents needed by social development.
